Adequate for the job but not as good as those made years ago.
This edger is easy for me to use once the initial edging groove was made on its first use, as long as you use it on a regular basis ( I use it every 2 or 3 weeks). In my opinion Ames was one of the best brands, as I had one long ago that lasted quite a few years. That said, they seem to have cheapened the cutting blade (too thin and a different type compared to how I remember the first one was) which can bend hard against the rotary tines if it hits a pebble or some other obstruction, making it difficult to push - a problem that didn't exist with my original one made by Ames. I had to carefully bend the cutter blade back out to continue using it. The center drum is now made of plastic instead of the original metal. It also arrived missing the axle bolt nut forcing me to make a visit to the hardware store. I still consider Ames a good brand in light of what is out there these days, but it doesn't seem as well designed as it once was. The original USA made one just seemed better.

I do hate dandelions with every fiber of my being.
I hate dandelions.I have used this long handled weeder for an entire season (2013 Spring, Summer, and Fall)This weeder is easily sharpened. This will ensure a long and productive service lifeThe long handle allows me to create more force and leverage as I visit death upon the intruding dandelions and other unwanted and troublesome weeds. Also, the Long Handled Dandelion Weeder allows me to extract them from my lawn without stooping. Thus, I prefer it to short handled weeding tools.Furthermore, it allows me to easily turn the dandelions upside down as they are severed from their roots. As I work in my yard and see the dandelions' white undersides, it is almost like a flag of surrender and it gives me a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment as I survey the path of havoc wreaked upon the unwanted intruding dandelions. The cost is reasonable and the performance is excellent. My favorite feature is the long sturdy handle as I no longer have to stoop to the dandelion's level as I unload a severe case of dandelion loathing whupass upon them.Be gone dandelions, your intruding and unwanted sunlight stealing ways are not welcome here. No longer will you be a mark of shame in my yard as you attempt to deprive my lawn of the very sunlight the lush green grass needs to beautify the neighborhood and replace carbon dioxide with life giving Oxygen. And it is all made possible by the Ames True Temper 1941600 Long Handled Dandelion Weeder.Have a nice day and a breath of fresh air.

Do not buy; bent on first use!
I had an older hand edger that was well worn. I bought this to replace it. I tried it out on my driveway that I had just used the old edger on last weekend. The new one didn’t make it around my short driveway before it bent at the “blade.” Total pot metal junk. Will be attempting a return.

Edger is not well tempered
This is not a quality tool. Back when I was a kid and using my parent's tools, I didn't treat them so well. Our old poor manual edger was dragged across the ground, run violently over the driveway when I was careless, and tossed in a corner blades down. It worked like a champ year after year... Now that I own my own house and buy my own tools, I am sad to see that today's stuff is not designed to last. Even though I treat the tools better, they break doing what they were designed to do.After two edge trimmings of my relatively short driveway, one of the blades bent to the point the wheel locked up. I was able to very easily bend it back using a pair of pliers and hand force. But once it was bent, it would bend easier and jam again. I am still able to use it in one direction using the unbent blade after getting the bad one out of the way. It's probably just a matter of time before that one bends too and this tool will probably go in the garbage. I might try to get a warranty replacement because the Amazon return policy is only 30 days.I will also note that the product page says "Made in the USA" but the product itself states it's assembled in the US with foreign materials. They need to do some serious quality control with the hardness of the steel they use in the blades.

Weeder Well Worth It
This is very, very close to what I was looking for -- a weeder that kept me off my hands and knees while yanking the many weeds from our yard, since I hate using herbicides. It's sturdy, simple, well-made, and does the trick efficiently, going as deep to the root as muscle can provide. The reason for the one-off star: it's short, roughly four feet. Even though I'm 5'6" -- short myself -- I still have to bend over a fair amount to make the "physics" of the whole thing work completely to get the weed out. Still, well worth the money.

Not easy on the back
It tears more than cuts the string runners from my Bermuda sod that are creeping over my driveway and patio. And once "cut" they tend to get wrapped between the rotary wheel and the oouter piece. I had to constantly stop and pull the runners out. But, it got done what I needed to edge. However, it was NOT easy by any means. My lower back hurts big time from being so bent over. The muscles between my shoulder blades ache from all the pushing. Maybe now that the initial cutting is done it won't be so bad to keep up with. Weed whacker is much easier, but the cement driveway eats the line up. I also kinda strangled the machine trying to edge ... wore the edge off the cap that kept the spoool of filament in place. Cap came off. The line got wrapped around everything so I thought this would be cheaper in the long run. I may regret the decision. We'll see.

Great idea
Great idea. Pro: Overall great idea and it works for smaller weeds. Con: the front edge is blunt, doesn't cut well but it can be sharpened. Next, I would like to see a way to pry out the weed. After I bought this I've seen a diameter piece of steel welded on the bottom side so you can pry out the weed.

Satisfied. Works well.
This tool works well. I've been able to remove bad weeds very comfortably while standing up. The piercing tip is not as edged or as detailed as smaller weed removers (normally the ones you use on your knees) however it still does the required job well. Some advice: Try watering the soil a few hours before removing bad weeds, it makes it much much easier.

Robustness
More reinforcement/permanency on metal prong connection to wood handle. It bent in first 15 min of use. I taped and glued the red cone connecting the metal business end prong to the wood tight. Seems to be OK now
