LOVE THIS, we have a wood stove on the ...
LOVE THIS, we have a wood stove on the main floor and our bedroom is in the basement. I can trigger specific alarms by email using gMail to alert me when the stove needs to be feed more wood. Also being a web developer I just had to get my geek on and connect it to my home intranet site. This ended up being a snap with the JSON output directly from the device. Switched it over to POE and it works great, make sure to follow the instructions and mount it vertically using the tiny nail hole as the heat needs to vent through the device.Support is outstanding, customer service is quick, personal and they stand behind their product 110%.

Don't rely on the built-in temperature sensor for accurate readings
Device has quirky and lacking software with poorly designed hardware. Works great with an external temp sensor!Poor hardware design: The hardware is poorly designed because it gets warm... I have my device powered through PoE and the device is warm to the touch. This causes the internal temperature sensor to display inaccurate temperatures. This would be fine for some people, but not when I am relying on this device to accurately monitor and report my server rooms temperatures. I had to purchase the AVTECH external temperature probe for an additional $50 to get the accuracy I was looking for. To give an idea, these are temps from a standard thermometer, the external temperature probe, and the internal sensor respectively: 63, 68, 76. The internal sensor is 8 degrees warmer than the external probe despite them being 6 inches apart and both hanging in mid air. How could they overlook this design flaw in testing?Lacking software: The device has no option to input proxy settings. Kind of odd since they seem to advertise this mostly to corporations. I had to open ports to the device's IP to get it to report to gotomydevices.com.Quirky software: I wish the web UI didn't force me to change the password every time I accidentally click the security tab in settings. The security tab only has the option to change the device's password, and when clicked on accident (as I have many times while thumbing through the settings) it will not allow me to click a different tab under security. It gives an error stating, "Incorrect Password". To bypass this, you must exit the settings and re-enter settings. It is a minor annoyance, but is also a very simple fix on their end.Once we got the external temperature sensor, all was well.

Mfg plant floor monitoring
We've put these in IDFs on our plant floor here for an easy, cheap, PoE solution that will let me know if I rack temps are too high for the switches. We're in the south and the plant floor isn't air conditioned so temps are something we keep an eye on. These have been accurate within 1 to 2 degrees, are simple to configure and take up minimal space in the rack. If you run out of PoE ports you can always plug it in with the included power. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.

On Time & Great Product
Item is as advertised and is a great little device. The on-board software and browser supported software through RoomAlert are a great resource for keeping tabs on temps in our environment. The additional sensor support offers a ton of options for adapting the device to your needs.

Requires Annual Subscription for Basic Alerting Features!
Beware of the ongoing annual fee for this product. Bought this product to monitor a small server room. Primarily intended to use the built-in web interface to send alerts in the event abnormal temperature was detected. I agree with the other reviewers that the built-in temperature sensor is inaccurate. I have found it to be grossly inaccurate, but would still have been useful for my purposes were in not for the worthless built-in web interface and the manufacturer's scam regarding an annual fee (a whopping $99) to unlock necessary alerting functionality. The built-in web interface is worthless for sending alerts because it does not support SSL or TLS encryption which is required by most (if not all these days) email service providers. There is an alternate alerting method through the company hosted website, but, surprise, an annual fee is required for basic functions needed to allow the product to be used as a server room monitor. So the long and the short of it is that if you want the Room Alert 3E product to be useful for alerting, you will need to pay the $185 purchase price (up from the $150 I paid a year ago) plus $99 annually in order to make it useful. In view of the annual subscription and the lack of disclosure from AVTECH in that regard, I'm truly stunned at the positive reviews for this product. Perhaps the reviews were all written before the reviewers realized it would cost another $99 per year to make the product useful.By the way, the manufacturer could fix the alerting issue easily by simply modifying the built-in web server to support SSL and TLS. Of course if the built-in web server actually worked for alerting there would be no need for anyone to pay the annual subscription fee, so I can see why AVTECH doesn't make this simple modification.2/8/2019 Update in response to manufacturer comment. The manufacturer's comment states that an annual subscription is not required. This is absolutely true. The alternate to using the built-in web server does not require an annual subscription. What is also true, and what the manufacturer fails to say, is that the free alerting function only allows a single message when an alert is triggered. Just one. So if you don't immediately notice that solitary message floating in the sea of messages you may receive every day, you are SOL and so is whatever you were trying to protect. This is not a useful alerting function for a server room. Now, I understand the manufacturer does offer a way to obtain multiple or repeated alerts in response to an alarm trigger. Any guesses on how to get this feature? That's right, with an ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION.Again, the manufacturer is free to choose any business model they wish, and everyone knows that periodic subscription fees are the holy grail of retail. The manufacturer should, however, be honest about their products and services, and neither the original product description nor the response to my initial review rises to the level of honesty.

Only 1 day of data history is free, anything more is a very expensive yearly fee.
I was very excited about the features of this sensor and the price. The description says that data logging (history) is free, what they don't tell you is that's it's only 1 day! In my opinion this is intentionally misleading and unprofessional. If you require a month or more of sensor data history, you have to purchase a yearly reoccurring fee and is very expensive. I returned the sensor, waiting on my refund. Ultimately I'm disappointed.

Great device
Great device. Simple to set up and use. Would buy more from this company. Also, if you were wondering (like I was) if you need a paid subscription to be notified of alerts... you do not. As long as you have an SMTP server set up, you can have the unit send you an alert without any subscription. Also, they have a free subscription tier if you choose to use their website.

Useless without an external temperature probe
I purchased this to monitor a server room. Unfortunately the device gets hot in itself which renders any measurement of the temperature of the surrounding environment pointless. It's currently reading 28 degrees C in a room sitting at 20 degrees and is warm to the touch. I also did not realise that it required a subscription after the first year to maintain the internet web portal functionality.

Bought this for a small comms room - seems to do the job.
Deployment was very simple via a built-in web-interface. Once set up you can access it's temp reading any time and set up email alerts if the temp changes out of a certain range. You can use your own mail server or the service provided by the manufacturer. Some advanced settings are only available with a paid subscription, but the free 'Personal' subscription seems to be fine for basic functions.A summary email is sent once a month - confirming device status and reporting any recent events. Good as a basic 'heartbeat' for confidence that the thing is still working.
