Much Better Than Expected and Very Sturdy
There is a reviewer who said this was flimsy and not suitable for ocean species. In all fairness I think he must have received a different item by accident. What I received and what it seems everyone else except him received is a piece of nicely polished PVC pipe (appears to be schedule 40 PVC, polished to look nice and purtty), and a length of aluminum angle stock. Don't know the gauge off hand, but I would not hesitate in the SLIGHTEST to use this surf fishing with my 15' surf rod. Maybe he's putting this in concrete, but in sand I can't see any way you're going to bend or break this thing. However I already have a similar, but all aluminum sand spike that I purchased 20 years ago for my surf fishing. What I was looking for is something about half this length for sit on your butt fishing at some local lakes. For that, its way too long, so I cut the stake in half and drilled a new hole for the screw. NOW its suitable for lake fishing (at least for me). You may prefer the factory length for your style of fishing. The ONLY negative I could give this spike is that the screw and wing nut are not stainless steel. For lake fishing though this isn't a problem. For saltwater fishing, spend $1 for a stainless steel screw and wing nut.

Durability and lightweight.
Perfect for surf fishing, light enough to bundle up with fishing poles and carry.

Nic product!!
Like the fact that you can fold down by just unscrewing and rotating tube.

It’s a sand spike, what more do you need to know?
It’s portable which I like. It’s durable which I like. And it gets the job done.I mean... it’s a friggin sand spike. Just get it.

Perfect sand spike
A perfect sand spike and if you put a washer on the PVC pipe it would be extraordinary. Easily done though.

Might be okay for small freshwater fish, too flimsy for the ocean.
This thing is flimsy. It uses only one bolt to connect the PVC to the spike, and gives an overall feeling of instability - it's easy to bend the PVC away from the aluminum - a small "crack" away from sending your rod into the water.I only felt secure with this after moving the bolt down to it's furthest down setting and using bungee balls to hold it tight against the aluminum in additional places.
