Electra's Complex (Bella After Dark)

This book was a delightful surprise, I don't tend to read mysteries, but all the twisted details of a murder on a college campus created a terrific backdrop for lots of wild sex, witty dialogue, sharp politics, and some really well crafted and queerly endearing characters. Academic intrigue, impeccable outfits, and sizzling dyke drama make this a fun and fabulous way to spend your time. If you don't have a sexy butch Electra in your life, this will keep you wet and warm until she arrives..

A highly readable, irreverent novel that follows Electra on her journey to solve a murder. Along the way Electra takes down heteropatriarchy, and gives us rich sex scenes of queer pleasure, maintaining a strong storyline and speeding us to its foreshadowed conclusion.

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book, but it was a wild ride. I've shelved it as erotic, and it is, but there is absolutely no romance to this book. It's a murder mystery where one of the potential suspects is also investigating the murder to the best of her ability. There's a lot of sex with multiple partners, but all of it ratchets up the tension.I'm typically not a mystery person at all, but I'm so glad I read this. Great fun! Professor Electra Campos is smart, sexy, with a weakness for the ladies. And her most dreadful dean has dropped dead (with a little help). Electra is an obvious suspect, and she gets involved with proving her innocence (with a little "Prove it on me Blues.") This novel is packed (pun intended) with action (pun intended). It's an academic murder mystery whose appeal will extend far beyond academics. Electra and her side-kick Adrián have me laughing and shaking my head (and wanting to shake them!). Electra's Complex is "A Bella After Dark Erotic, Romantic Mystery. Electra Campos is an English professor at Capital College in New York City. Getting to campus very early, to turn in paperwork to the dean, she discovers his body in a pool of his blood. What follows is a very funny mystery with some great, off beat characters. There is also plenty of sex, and a fun flirtation between Electra and NYPD Detective Carolina Quinn. Edited by award winning Kathering V. Forrest, Electra's Complex is a very good debut novel.

I really enjoyed this book primarily for the banter between Elektra and her best friend Adrian. Also her dealings with the lead detective Quinn. Entertaining!
