Vampires as humanitarians, prepare for a paradigm shift.
Icrathari are the oldest of the remaining fae races and progenitors of the vampires after the apocalyptic destruction of Earth's atmosphere by humans. While the Icrathari have endured for many thousands of years, they are now divided among themselves. For the last 1000 years, five Icrathari have attempted to parent the only known surviving humans and to rescue barely 15% of the plants and animal species in a flying city, Aeternae Noctis, that must forever escape into 'Eternal Night' avoiding the scorching sunlight on this now barren planet. The other handful of remaining Icrathari refused to take on the burden of shepherding humans but instead have survived in this harsh new world and given rise to a culture known as daevas. A battle is looming as the daevas rise up after 1000 years and begin systematic assaults on the flying city. The humans of Aeternae Noctis live in fear of the culling at the full moon each month as the Icrathari gather a majority of the children barely aged 5 years and whisk them away to the Tower never to return. No explanations have been given for 1000 years, but human rebellions are quelled and any adult taken by the Icrathari is turned into a vampire to serve in the city. Now one human, Jaden, has been born with the reincarnated soul of Rohkeus, the long dead lover of Ashra, the Icrathari queen. He is fated to protect his young half sister who is prophesied to one day end the Eternal Night but she is chosen during the culling. Will he choose to free his sister and lead the fight for the freedom of the humans from the oppressive reign of the Icrathari? Or will he follow his misunderstood dreams of Ashra and try to rediscover his connection to the Icrathari? Fate and Vision will war for his mind.Give this book a chance to build unexpected hope among extraordinary despair in a world where vampires and their Icrathari progenitors can be the salvation or the doom of the human race.

WOW!!
This is a beautifully written and edited book about a post- apocalyptic Earth and the people and creatures who are left to survive on a dying planet. At first, I thought this would be another vampire vs. human story- which I happen to like. It turned out, however, to be so much more! I won't give too many spoilers- as this story is meant to unfold slowly, just as the humans in this tale slowly become aware that their mortal enemies... the vampires and the Icrathari are actually humanities saviors!Positives- The writing is smooth and polished- the editing is perfect- the story is well told, researched and executed. Really, this is professionally perfect.Negatives- none.I look forward to any and all sequels to what promises to be a classic, in scifi, post-apocalyptic fiction.Well done! 5 stars!

Looking forward to more of Jade's stories, including this series.
Not my normal type of story, but it was recommended to me and I say thank you. I found it to be an intriguing story with many twists and turns as the characters grew (and in some cases, showed their true colors). Lots of action and drama. I could not put it down.

An original take on the usual vampire stories!
An original take on the usual vampire novels, one which is very artistically portrayed in this beautiful 1st book in the Aetenae Noctis series. An apocalypse had hit the world and nothing remained outside the dome which an elder Icrathari, Rohkeus had built in order to protect the few humans he was able to gather into the city under the dome before the sun ate everything up. These Icrathari and vampires looked out for the humans for a thousand years but over the years humans started to hate the fact that they lived out their lives in eternal night, and blamed the night terrors for this. A young girl was prophesied to bring an end to the eternal night and Jaden her elder brother vowed to protect her when her time for the culling came around, however during the fight with the vampires he was captured and taken in front of Ashra the demonic Queen who ruled the Mallum Terris, the vampires stronghold. But when Jaden saw the queen he realised she was the woman who had haunted his dreams every night and he started to discover that he was not who he thought he was. Ashra possessed an angel's face, a demon's wings, the instincts of a predator, a mind bound by duty and a heart that yearned for love and her rare smiles summoned a matching feeling in Jaden and he was troubled. Were his feelings his own or where they Rohkeus', had he turned into a blood slave or a vampire, he did not feel completely human anymore and no longer feared the Icrathari so what was happening? Ashra was being betrayed by one of her own whilst the daeva's were trying to invade the world they had protected for so long, and Jaden was all out to protect his love and his people. By building the city, Rohkeus had saved humanity. Jaden would save humanity by leading them out of it. it was high time and they needed to work together to do this! A very gripping novel of love which not even death could eradicate, duty, courage and betrayal, can humans and their night terrors once their protectors work together to build a new world fit for all of them to live in?

It gripped me to the end
I love the author's science fiction books so I thought I would give a fantasy one a try. After reading several chapters I decided this type of story is not to my taste ... but I wanted to find out what happened next, so I read the next couple of chapters, and so on, until I finished the book! The author writes very well, bringing the characters and the setting to life, and the story is absorbing and with lots of twists. What can I say? I didn't fancy a story about vampires and icrathari, but it gripped me to the end!

Nice vampires in an apocalypse world?
This book has a new take on the vampires with humanitarian attitudes and protectors of the human beings in a bleak apocalypse world for several generations. I like both Jaden and the vampire queen Ashra and their slow-burning romance.
