Historically Haunted Galveston!
“Haunted Galveston” is a fascinating read. I didn’t know about all the devastation caused by the 1900 hurricane, so reading the actual letters from survivors was heart-wrenching – it was a very appropriate way to introduce the city and begin the book. With all the history and heartache of Galveston, there’s no wonder that it has so many ghost stories so tell! The thing that struck me the most is that this book doesn’t contain fireside ghost stories for a teenage campfire circle. If that’s what you’re expecting, then you’ll probably be disappointed. No, instead it has old, historic places and the true haunts that have many have experienced over the years. From the Karankawa Indians, to the pirate Jean Lafitte, to the majestic Hotel Galvez, the author has done her homework and is a masterful writer. The fact that the book had such polarized reviews puzzled me, until I saw that those who dislike the book weren’t verified Amazon purchasers; perhaps they didn’t actually read it. Verified reviewers give it high marks, and I understand why. This reviewer has to do exactly the same. As far as I’m concerned, this book is a must-read before visiting Galveston to explore its ghostly side!

Great detail about Galveston history
What's great about this book is that includes a chapter with letters from survivors of the 1900 hurricane to relatives. Very fascinating read!

I love Galveston, and quickly snagged this one
I love Galveston, and quickly snagged this one. Granted, I am a history junkie, so I was an easy mark. I am familiar with some of the "ghost stories", but this work gave context to those stories. I particularly appreciated the references to Native American spirituality, as this is the basis for the uniquely Galveston mystique. It is an easy read, what some may call a "beach" book, a "Galveston Beach" book, if you will.

The author seems to drift away from the title of the book with a lot of historical facts that have nothing to do with hauntings. The book is okay but the title is misleading.

Galveston Ghost Stories
The author writes very well about some of the more famous Galveston ghosts. Interesting and entertaining.

Part history, part poetry
Part history, part poetry, the book is hard to put down. The author is a great storyteller who engages the reader from the first pages of the book. Reading Haunted Galveston is an escape into another world.

A Must Read
Only book I have found on Galveston ghostly past/present. Lots of history. I especially loved all the letters from survivors of The Great Flood of 1900. Good read. Great photos. I would highly recommend it.
