VELLOFreeWave Micro Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Select Nikon DSLRs

I bought this to replace my $200 3-piece Nikon version for my D850 after losing two of the parts from that on a camping trip, which I bought used, only to find it isn't being made anymore by Nikon and everyone's out of stock. Anyway, this one works exactly the same. Push it gently into the multi-pin port on the front and screw it on. Be careful doing this; I already ruined that port once with a different 3rd party cable release and it cost $400 to repair, back when Nikon was still accepting repairs, before Covid.I haven't tested the range or anything, but I don't plan on firing from far away anyhow. I mainly want it for slow shutter speeds. With the camera set to electronic front curtain and mirror lockup, motion is totally eliminated from the release, for the first time in any camera I've owned—and I've owned a lot. And at 45mp, that's especially important. Also, if you use autofocus, you can press the remote button halfway to focus, just like on your camera.I would give it 5 stars, but the build quality feels a little cheaper than the Nikon version, the remote's a little larger, and the cute antenna on the receiver is a little too high and might make it more vulnerable to breakage. Still, if it's durable, at any price under $100 this thing's a bargain.Oh, and it comes with a AAA battery, which is a nice bonus!

Easy to set up, work great, couldn’t be happier!

I liked that I could take pictures remotely and be in the photo. So long as the path to the camera wasn't blocked, it worked as expected. For pictures with babies, it helped so that I could get her attention and look in the direction of the camera.

Nice to have remote range where previous, built-in Nikon systems wouldn’t allow. However, it seems to have a massive flaw when used with my D850 that irritates the hell out of me, and I use the remote for shooting almost exclusively. After using it to take a shot, after returning to the camera to review the image, short of switching the camera off and on again, every control on the camera becomes inoperable. Nothing works, no button responds, until you half-press the remote button again. That brings the image review screen back up and the camera buttons then work again. It’s very, very frustrating on a long shoot.

The receiver fits very nicely to my D850. Also the transmitter also fits right to my hand. Due to the small size it is not very noticeable by models or subjects. Also you can use this next to the camera or some distance away from your camera. I used for micro photo, selfies, I am very satisfied with this product.
