A fun and developmentally valuable story for young readers.
Every child goes through a phase of thumb or finger sucking, in their life. Although not a cause for much concern until they are about six years of age, beyond this age the thumb-sucking habit may cause undesirable defects and facial deformity in the child. Read on to find out how you can intervene early without causing much psychological distress in your child with DANA'S FINGER IS SET FREE by Vered Kaminsky. This is a very clever interactive book where Dana’s chart is also waiting for you and your child via the link provided, as well as other learning materials in PDF form, to add fun to the reading and understanding of the book. A well-deserved five stars from me.

Cute
Cute. Love the message. Cute illustrations. I love that she was able to stop sucking her finger. The story even allowed for some mistakes

Just okay
I read this book with my almost 4 year old to get her out of the habit of sucking her fingers. I wish the book was shorter and talked more about the reasons why it's important not to do this. The book is too long in my opinion.

A good story and good advice to stop thumb sucking
In “Dana’s Finger is set free,” Vered Kaminsky addresses a problem that virtually every parent and child face, the sucking of the child’s thumb. Sara Bat-Or illustrates it very nicely. It is a book that every parent and child should read or have the book read to the child. The story is interesting and fun to read, the message is significant and perhaps even lifesaving. Sucking the thumb can lead not only to crooked teeth but to unwanted future behavior, such as the need to put something in one’s mouth, perhaps cigarettes. In this age of coronavirus, it can lead to a serious illness. In the story, the young child fails to give up her habit of thumb sucking. But then her mother thinks of an idea that may work. And it does. It is an idea that other parents will want to adopt.

I'm wondering if this story was translated from another language
The story is very basic, the grammar is a bit weird and the drawings are poor.

Colorful tale of perseverance
When Dana is little, it's cute when she sucks on her thumb. When she's six years old and still doing it, however, it's not so cute anymore, but try as she might, she just can't stop. Then her mom comes up with an idea-- every day Dana doesn't suck her thumb, she can put a sticker on a special calendar chart, and if she can make it an entire week she gets a price! Will Dana succeed in breaking the habit for herself? This book is a cute story about perseverance that children will appreciate if they've had trouble keeping their thumbs out of their mouths. The bright, colorful artwork make it easy for young ones to follow along. I can highly recommend Dana's Finger is Set Free to any parent looking for a way to get their kid to stop sucking their thumb.

Good Book For Children Trying to Start Breaking Their Habit
I thought this book was pretty well done for teaching kids a physical method for trying to stop sucking thumbs/fingers. I thought the little girl Dana coming up with the smile idea was good. When the mom hands the chart to Dana, I think by Kindergarten, she’s going to know a chart and a calendar, but other than that, I did think the book was pretty well written with well done illustrations. From the mom of a finger sucker, I do have to say it is extremely hard to break this habit, and it really does have to come from the children eventually taking ownership and deciding they want to stop. Dana does this in the book.

Not written for children under 5.
I bought this book for my three year old. It is actually written for older children. I read it and got good ideas. Very cute and helpful just the same.

Quite helpful
I’m not sure if it was this book that helped my 3 yo toddler or not, but it certainly played a part. I bought this book two weeks ago, and before it was delivered I played its audiobook for my daughter. She misheard the word “rows” and thought it says “rose”, so she asked me if one day she stops sucking on her finger will I give her a rose?My daughter has been sucking her two middle fingers since birth. We saw it even in ultrasound. We talked to her a lot about it, but it didn’t have any effect. We had planned to start using those bitter nail polishes during holidays. A couple of days ago she scratched her finger and I put a bandaid on it, then after an hour she asked me to remove it because she wants to eat her finger. I said if it helps you remember that you shouldn’t eat your finger, maybe you should keep it. She said like Dana? And I will get a rose and special gift? So please put a bandaid on my second finger. We did this, and of course that night she had trouble going to sleep, but she managed it and hasn’t been sucking on her fingers since then. I’ve kept the bandaids though, as a gentle reminder. Hopefully that’s it.

Lovely story to encourage children
This is a lovely story to encourage children to stop sucking their thumb with an underlying message to make them feel good about themselves rather than shame about the habit. We are still to see if it will work or not; as with all habits it will take more than just a book but it seems to of given my daughter the confidence to try so it’s a great start. It does have quite a bit of text and some of the words are a bit old for my 5 year old so I substitute them for simpler language as I’m reading it. Overall though a nice story with a lovely idea to help help thumbs out. Fingers crossed it helps!

Not well written
Not well written, feels cheap. It is hard to read to a child. I end up making up the words as I go along because it’s too long & has so many lines that dont need to be there… it drags on. Just generally not well written. My toddler does like it though. She enjoys the pictures and she likes the story I make up as I go, so she asks me to read it sometimes… so there’s that
