One of the best ideas i have seen but come on the price is very unpractical.  I could see these selling in every lumber yard worldwide.  Price check?

Thank you for your encouragement. However, INVIS will remain a specialty item where something needs to be completely hidden, while the joint remains detachable. For example knock-down installation, high-end paneling, tamper-free installations, etc. Also, INVIS will need some level of professional workmanship to have the two pieces align. That's why it will most likely not a product you will see at the lumber yard or Home Depot. Price is always a consideration, of course.  But each INVIS joining element will need to have a "motor" that drives the screw embedded. Those "motors" require a specially prepared rare-earth permanent magnet and a locking mechanism in each male piece. Rare-earth magnets are expensive and subject to huge market fluctuations. This is one of the reasons for the price of about $6 per joint. But if you are able to save 15 minutes in your time for assembly, it might already be worth the investment. Also, prices vary on the internet, depending on what special you find. Nevertheless, because of the reasons I just mentioned, it will never replace the screw, biscuit, dowel or nail. That is not the intent.

Question 2

Are these aircraft approved? I want to use hidden fasteners to attach the wings to my Cessna

Accepted Answer

No, unfortunately we can not give you any FAA certification to attach your wings to your airplane. The fasteners have, however, been used in the past to build interior designs of private aircraft. However, any government requirements to use the fastener for whatever purposes will remain with the builder. Thank you for your interest.

Question 3

How do these accommodate movement in the wood surfaces that you are attaching?

Accepted Answer

The purpose of the INVIS fastener is to fix and lock in place the work pieces it joins. Therefore, there should not be any movement of the surfaces once joined.  If you, however, refer to the potential of wood pieces expand due to humidity and temperature between the manufacture and installation of the work piece, then INVIS provides some leeway on the screw which can move about 0.5mm within its casing. Please rephrase the question if this did not answer your concerns. Thank you.

Question 4

Will this system work with standard nuts?  I'm looking to attach wood panel edges to a t-slot style track with t-nuts.

Accepted Answer

The short answer is "Yes". Invis MX2 can work with T-Nuts. However, we will need to provide you with some specific technical information about the exact size, direction and type of thread your T-Nuts will require. You would then replace the standard female stud and create a custom-specific thread by either tapping a thread into a T-piece of aluminum, or try to find the specific nut that features the correct thread.
