Works great on marijuana smoke! (plus lots of other stuff)
I'll get to why I knocked a star off my review in a minute (check out my update at the bottom, back to 5 stars). Just know, this thing is amazing! I wouldn't call it a great value, but it's worth every single penny. We have 4 dogs in a single story open design of about 1250 square feet. I instantly noticed a huge improvement in air quality within a short time after turning it on! The auto function works amazingly well. It will be sitting there on it's lowest fan speed, having successfully cleaned the air all day/night. The little blue circle indicator light tells you your air is currently at it's cleanest. I'll light up a joint about 20' from the purifier and within a minute or so I'll notice the fan speed crank up to its fullest! (It's still super quiet though, even on its highest you can't hear it with a TV on) Red indicator light! Then purple! It tells me right away that my air has been polluted and it's working to fix it. Within 20 or 30 minutes, the whole house is completely smoke and scent free! It's perfect for all you well-to-do stoners such as myself. You make good money, you have nice things, you're a grown up now! You don't want other adults coming over to your marijuana smoke filled house. Especially all your friends with kids. Or maybe you have kids? What kind of an example are you setting!? Opening the windows on a nice day only does so much. And if you have cold winters and can't open the windows, what then? You buy this thing ya dummy. All those problems will be solved.I knocked off a star because my wife is making me return it. She doesn't like how it looks. I don't think it's terrible. It's the great air purifier paradox: In order for it to work well it's needs to be out in the open, but to be out in the open it needs to not look stupid. There's a lot of air purifiers that I passed over based on looks alone. This one I was on the fence about, the color choice of the panel helped push me over. I'm going to add a picture to this review. If you agree with me and think it's looks not that terrible, leave me a comment! Or if you're wrong and agree with my wife's decision to return it, please don't let me know.Anyway, you can turn off the panel lights by pressing the big colorful button in the middle while it's running. That's obviously nice if you're gonna use this in a bedroom. It'd be nice if you could turn the panel lights on and off without having to turn the entire unit off. Seems like an unnecessary power cycle just to adjust the lights. But hey, it's got a lifetime warranty so who cares if it breaks from excessive power cycles!Long story longer - I'm going to have a hard time replacing this with something else, especially with how well it works. The bar is set REALLY high for cleaning the air in my house now after owning this thing for only a few days. I'm addicted to the fresh air. I work from home and spend a lot of time here. It feels really nice. I will caveat this entire review and say this is the first air purifier I've ever owned. Maybe they all do pretty well? Most of the major players have good reviews. I think it comes down to aesthetics when you spend this much. We don't have a ton of space in our house, so this thing has to sit right out in the open for everyone to wonder and ask what it is. It has to look good. I'll admit that it's not the sexiest. Unfortunately, function over form is losing this battle to form over function this time.P.S. - what maniac thought purple was the right color to indicate your air quality is at its worse!? Why would red indicate the second worst air quality?? Is there some standardized air pollution color rating system that I'm just not aware of?****Update 2 weeks in, back to a 5 star review****OK, we tried to replace this unit with a different, more aesthetically pleasing purifier. We tried the Coway AirMega 400. It looks great, covers a similar square footage, and has even better features than this Alen 75i unit....but it flat out just didn't work as well. It was also MUCH louder. With this Alen 75i unit in the same exact position as the Coway AirMega, the air was noticeably cleaner and smell free. Also, on it's loudest setting the 75i is hardly noticeable with a TV on. The Coway AirMega was at least 4 or 5x louder on it's loudest setting...to the point where you didn't want to run it on it's highest setting unless you weren't home.We tried this unit in a few different positions around the house, some out of the way where it didn't work as well, and now in it's new spot (different from the pictures I posted) and it's seriously great! My wife isn't thrilled with the spot we landed on, but it works really well and isn't as bad as she once thought. Seems that function over form has come through to win in the end!

Very impressed
My wife and I both suffer from allergies - pollen, pet fur/dander, etc. Visits to our daughter's home were somewhat tortuous affairs, as her family has two cats. They're both chill creatures, and like nothing better than to introduce themselves by constantly rubbing and sitting in your lap. While I love cats, even going into a home where one lives is a challenge for my allergies. On our last visit, though, I noticed a BIG difference in the air quality of their home. They showed me the two Alen 75i air purifiers they'd purchased, and went on and on about what a great job they did with odors and pet dander. I was really impressed at how enthusiastic they were about their air purifiers, and even MORE impressed that we were there for an entire day and didn't have any allergy issues. We decided to purchase one for our home after we began noticing a big dust buildup covering everything and began experiencing severe bouts of coughing and allergy flare-ups. We've had it running for about 10 days now and have already noticed a definite improvement in the air quality of our home. We purchased the 'fresh' filter, and it does a pretty good job of removing cooking odors in a very short time. I've noticed how sensitive the unit is; the first couple of days it hovered in the red/amber range often, and ran at nearly top speed while the AQ sensor showed those colors. It settled down by the third day, staying mostly in the green/blue range. But it quickly drops back to the lower ranges when we cook, or when my wife burns a scented candle. I don't mind those fluctuations at all, as I know the unit is reacting to the air quality of it's environment, and helping to keep us healthier. My only 'complaint' (and it's a weak one) is the exorbitant cost of the Alen 75i. I've seen other highly rated air purifiers that have roughly the same feature set, uses the same types of HEPA filters, and operates much like the Alen unit does for about half the cost. If we eventually decide we want to add a second unit in our bedroom I may have a go with one of those devices, but for now I'm really pleased at how well the Alen 75i works for us.I elected to subscribe to Alen's 'filter subscription' service, where you can get a small discount and have a replacement filter delivered periodically, based on how often you want to get one. While I could select the time period for a replacement, I was disappointed that I couldn't decide when I wanted the first replacement delivered. I've got at least a year's worth of service life on the filter that came with our unit, but I'll shortly have a replacement that will itself be scheduled for replacement in a year. I'll try to opt out of the next scheduled delivery period. Hope Alen's subscription customer service reps are good!

Customer support
Customer support is superb.Agent explained I was still under full warranty with my six year old 75i breathsmart and entitled to a free replacement machine. She explained in detail how to easily replace my unit now or in the future. Then she walked me through some easy fixes, one of which worked. Very patient and knowledgeable. Obvious she had done this herself and was not just working off a template. (Two internal switches, not just one like I thought, and a jostled machine sometimes loosens the internal filter contact and cuts power.)
