Making WET: The Magazine of Gourmet Bathing

Make WET: The Magazine of Gourmet Bathing is a wonderful visual review of WET. I love the free and open spirit the flows of the pages and it reminds me of a more innocent time when we believed a new world was openning up. The stories and graphics are sweet. I hoped for more than I expected, but at least I got a taste.

I purchased this for not only myself but also for my aunt. We were both part of WET magazine in its first incarnation as was my mom. It was a family act. I wish my mom was alive to see this piece of art. This book was well done and well executed. We was happy to add it to my collection of WET magazines. - Daphna

Can it be more than 30 years since WET Magazine's heyday? Hard to believe-- WET was the quintessence of hip back then: layout, content, marketing, it all added up to the coolest magazine ever. It got edgier and edgier until it crossed too many lines: one of the last few issues was banned by postal authorities, as I recall. It arrived in a plain brown wrapper-- was it the one with pigs porking on the cover? Or the one with the story of the artist who had sex with a corpse? One of those... maybe this book will clarify. (I guess I could go into the basement and dig them up, but the book, being a Leonard X production, will be well worth procuring.)I look forward to remembering the first issues, full of surprises, and the changes as it grew in size and scope, switching from slick to pulp and back again. As an exemplar of what the California New Wave aesthetic looked like, look no further-- this is It. The early Matt Groening stuff will be fun to see again, and the interviews with people I loved then-- Bob & Bob, Kenneth Anger, a hundred others-- will still be worth reading.So glad this has arrived-- about time, I'd say.

WET was one of my two or three favorite magazines back around the end of the '70s. I've gotten rid of my old Details and FACE magazines. I tossed my old Trouser Press and Crawdaddy issues. I never bothered to save Interview. But I kept all my WETs. It was a great magazine, and there was nothing else like in the publishing world. Its West Coast aesthetic was different from the NYC world I lived in, but it's the only magazine I read that made me envious of life in LA. It's amazing how few people were aware of WET over the past couple of decades. Hopefully this much needed book will bring it's greatness to a new generation of readers. Gourmet bathing and beyond !

Bought this as a birthday present for myself. Glad I treat myself so well.Looking forward, past the initial euphoric rush of memories skimming the photos, to learning more about the history of the magazine that help defined my college years. Waiting for delivery was almost as exciting as a visit to the record store hoping to find a new issue of WET.
