Does fit into a 1/2" hole.
I ordered it to stop up a hole 1/2" in diameter. The smallest part of the plug will not fit into the 1/2" hole. When I measure the diameter of the plug it appears the hole would have to be "at least" 5/8" diameter for the plug to go into/through it.

Used on an old like over 30 years old Grumman aluminum Jon boat
Boat had the bailer hole filled with something to not let water in or out. Regular bail plug did not seal well this one worked great.

Strange catagories. This plug is well made. Sturdy. Used to plug an above ground pool. Works well. Happy.

Don't care for the nylon wing nut.
Time will perhaps make me eat my words. Would much rather it have metal wing nut. Stainless or galvanized would be a better approach.

This is correctly sized. We’re using it to block our pool’s skimmer line for filter cleaning and plan to use it to winterize. Seems to be perfect

Doesn't really work
The idea for this plug is good, but, in practice it id far too easy to overtighten and pull the screw thru yhr rubber plug. There needs to be a wider screw head or something to prevent this happening.
