Great device, especially if you have other Garmin kit
Having owned many Garmin devices in the past, this is the first Edge device I’ve bought. I got fed up of having to risk crashing to look at my Garmin watch while cycling. So now I have both, one for the gym and general wear and one for cycling. In short, I love it. It’s a fantastic device! I’ve seen early reviews mentioning crashes and faulty buttons. It appears there may have been a problem with the first batch of devices. Mine works flawlessly but I had to wait for stock to get mine and now have what I suspect is a new batch of devices. It’s smart looking, has great features, is useable without being to large and easy to operate. It also works perfectly for off road cycling which is the main use I have it for. The maps that come with it are good, but I’ve added my own to improve it with better detail on the off road paths, routes and trails. Two minute job. It paired in seconds with my cadence sensor, speed sensor and my watch. I also have a chest strap, again paired no issue, but if you don’t you can use your Garmin watch to send HR data to the edge device. I love the display. It displays data in a much nicer way than my Fenix 5. There are graphic options and up to 10 fields. Spot on. It also benefits from connect IQ so you can easily customise it. There’s a profile for each type of cycling too. Ideal if you use different bikes. And this also now connects to Bluetooth as well as Ant+. I like the alert system too being an off road rider. If I crash and don’t stop it, it will text my chosen contacts my location and tell them I need help. Awesome feature. As is the live track should I chose to enable it so they can see where I am at any time. Extended display is great - basically mirrors what’s on your watch if you choose to do so. And for people who own other Garmin devices like myself, it supports ‘true up’. This means that devices talk to each other to share workout and other data. So you don’t get duplicate activities. I also love that my Garmin scales update this device with my weight so it has a better chance of giving me closer details on my workouts. I nearly went for the 830, but realised this is the same device minus a touch screen and door to door routing effectively. I don’t need either of those so I spent less and got this. Every other feature is the same. I’ve also added a Garmin remote to my handlebars. I can change the display while cycling with my thumb without remove my hands from the grips. All in all, a great device. And highly recommended.

Poor information through Amazon
WATCH OUT!! I only discovered when the Garmin Edge 530 was delivered that it was pre-loaded with maps for North America which could not be removed, and it could not be used for cycling in Europe. I live in UK and have no desire to cycle in US, so it is completely useless to me. What’s more, I then bought the Europe maps online on the understanding that I could upload them, which I couldn’t, so I’m out of pocket on both fronts and still have no usable device. Amazon did not make any of this clear. Garmin UK have been helpful and may be able to replace it.

A North America unit with North America maps installed.
Comes with maps - but of North America! They need to be removed to allow space to add the maps you need here in the UK - So, I decided to return it - which is full of problems as you are faced with re-exporting the unit back to the USA.

I can’t believe I used a watch for so long, this adds so much more to the cycling experience.

Great bike computer that has some awesome capabilities and features. I mainly mountain bike so those are the features I use often. The jump tracking is surprisingly very good and neat to see your stats and attempt to beat them. This is the same with the flow and grit statistics that offer a cool analysis to compete with. It shows nearby routes for mountain biking trails which is awesome especially if going to a new trail you can try a route to stay on course and not get lost. GPS is superb for tracking even in the woods. With that, battery was not affected too much, ~45 min ride in the woods in 26 degree weather with GPS + GLONASS enabled (most battery consumption) lost 4% battery. The Garmin connect app is very good, I've had zero issues and really like what it has to offer and the user interface along with viewing my activities. It is on par with strava and almost makes me want to buy a garmin smartwatch honestly. Having no touchscreen may be a plus for me actually, I use gloves often so a touchscreen would be painful. Also, the buttons work well and are easy to get use to after playing around with the device here and there. I have more features to try out but so far this is a awesome bike computer and I have no things that bother me about it at all so far. I've seen reviews saying it's too complicated and took long to setup. The app walks you through setup that takes 5 minutes and if you want to customize all your screens/profiles that display while riding that will take a bit longer but that is not setup. This is a electronic device that offers some great features and yes using some of these features requires technical prowess. But what electronic device doesn't, phones, tablets, laptops, computers etc do. There will be a learning curve as there is with many things in life. For me I am highly technologically skilled in consumer and some business electronics(IT professional) this device is relatively easy to use for me. For others it may be similar to buying a phone from another manufacturer or a new model with a new operating system. The point is it will take a bit of time to get use to like most things. If it's too complicated I suggest another bike computer that has much less features such as it only tracks speed/distance/time/clock. But if you want to up your cycling skills this will help with its advanced data and analysis along with some features to smile about.
