OLFAOl-tk Touch Knife, Red,Single

I've had my Yellow Olfa Touch*Knife on my desk (and sometimes in my pocket) for over twenty years. I don't even remember where I got it. Finally, it became too dull for my patience and I came to Amazon on a quest. Happily, I found it and ordered a few of differing colors. Some time in the last twenty years, somebody couldn't leave well-enough alone and changed the design a bit. It's NOT an improvement. (Perfection cannot be improved.) Nonetheless, I can still rest its flat edge on the material I want to cut and run the knife along a line or straight edge with the blade extended, and it slices perfectly. For opening padded envelopes, taped boxes, and a host of trivial home office chores, it can't be beat, not even with an Xacto Blade.The most evident two design changes are (1) the small latch 'teat' for the thumb slide is gone, along with the indented slide zone; and (2) it's larger by about 10%. While the slight size increase might arguably make it easier to handle safely for some, it does nothing for me. And I have relatively large, clumsy hands. The small latch 'teat' made it fairly easy (and obvious) to keep the blade extended, as long as the chore didn't exert pressure in the closure direction. The 'new' design does not APPEAR to support that mode of use. Nonetheless, by pressing the blade out firmly, it does reach a "stay extended" point and can be used the same way. I have no idea whether this is intentional or serendipitous. But it's enough to (barely) sustain the "I love it" 5-star rating.

I first found these on the OLFA site & purchased only one. Every time I used it, I thought that I should order more. Amazon makes it easy. I can include these in with other various items. These are the same quality. Someone mentioned that they retract at times & I found that to be true with my first purchase as well. I just push hard on the thumb blade slider & sometimes I just hold it but these little cutters are amazing for opening packages.

Ever picked up a coupon flyer in a store and decide you want to use one of the coupons? But you have to tear the flyer to shreds to get it? Olfa! Ever wanted to open a box to actually see the item before purchasing? Olfa! Ever noticed a loose thread hanging, that you know, if you pull, it will pull out half your hem? Olfa!These are but a few of the million reasons I have one of these on my key ring at all times! I've been carrying one of these for about ten years, and got a new one because I figured it HAD to be dull by now, but it still worked! The blade totally retracts and in all the years of rummaging in my purse to find my keys, I've never had a mishap. I know it's a sewing item, but I've found a higher calling for it!

I've had a number of these over the years. I use them mostly to open Amazon boxes! They are very, very sharp and stay that way for a long time. I keep in my kitchen "junk" drawer though a hole is there where it could be added to a key ring. I don't think that's a wise idea since grabbing it just wrong could cause the blade to slide out. Only a spring keeps it retracted; there is no lock. My old one, at least 10 years old, that went through a move and opened 140 boxes is still pretty sharp.

We use these often at work and home. Color makes them easy to find. Safe to use

The Olfa Touch Knife has been so handy and I always find uses for it. I use it on movie and CD wraps and more things that I can't open with my fingernails. I have one in my car, office, kitchen, guest and master bedrooms. I bought the latest ones for friends so they don't try to keep mine. It's perfect for one's purse or pocket. If your are into crafts, you'll love them for small projects. I found Olfa Touch Knifes over 5 years ago and original ones still work great!

I have just purchased some more Olfa touch knives for myself and my friends. Mine, I have had for twenty years and it is getting a bit rusty so I figured time to replace. You can not carry it onto the planes these days, but other than that is a very handy item to have with you. Cuts open stubborn envelopes, pesky tape on packages, bananas, and other types of fruit, peels away the insulating cover of wires, all sorts of uses. You will be amazed at how many uses you will find for it once you start carrying it around with you and remembering that it is there. Very handy item.

Several years ago, we bought a couple of dozen of these wonderful little knives, and I keep them stashed in drawers all over the house: in the kitchen, family room, study, garage - It is great to have one handy and close at hand when I need a small knife to do the job, whether it is opening boxes, cutting out magazine articles, or similar tasks. This little knife is often just the right tool for the job. And they take up no space at all, so storage is a non-issue. Consider purchasing a bright color, as we did, so you immediately spot them when you're looking for them in the drawer and don't lose them so easily when you're using them.
