Works great but much less expensive!
I was apprehensive of it's effectiveness because it was so cheap, but this pool shock worked just as it should have. This came as 6 count box of 1 pound packages, just as it stated.Contains 53% trichlor, which is the same % as the other 1 pound bags I've been buying locally. This box was equal to the price I usually pay for 2-3 bags, so you get much more for your money. I only need a small amount for my 1,000 gallon pool, so I roll the top and store the bag in a freezer ziplock bag. There was some undissolved powder remaining on the bottom of the pool but I have found that with every brand. I use my Aqua Broom pool vacuum about an hour after to remove.I have not noticed any fading or bleaching of my pool as other reviews have stated, but I will update if I do. I even accidentally got some of it on the blue blow up ring on our Intex pool and it did not bleach, fade or stain.Tip- You can add the shock to a white cotton tube sock and swish around in the pool until is dissolved.Proper shocking should raise your total chlorine to 10 ppm for 4 hours to properly kill bacteria. This is a stabilized chlorine, meaning it contains cyanuric acid ( CA) to prevent chlorine loss. Do not add more CA unless your test strip level is too low as too much CA will cause chlorine lock- which means it will not work on the bacteria.I did not notice a spike in Ph or total acidity ( TA) and most things I've read state that trichlor does not, but it can take longer for ph & TA to spike or drop. I retest 4 hours and 24 hours after shocking. No calcium, so will not raise water hardness like shock containing calcium hypochlorite.( personal retail purchase)

Shockingly good
This is SHOCKingly good. Ha ha get it? Ok. I only use this for shock. I open and close my pool with it, and the pool water is always clean when I remove the cover in spring. You can use it to help maintain your pool at a lower dose, but I do not find the need to do that. I keep this on hand in case I need to SLAM my pool (see trouble free pool DOT net if you do not know what that is). Other than that, I just keep twelve or so pouches of this stuff (6 pouches in one box) and 12 gallons of 10% bleach on hand as part of my pool sanitizer. I keep it on hand so I do not need to wait to order it.

Use common sense and do a little research and this will work wonderfully for most applications!
This shock sitting at the bottom of pool actually is a good thing for some pool issues. I have a black algae issue that grows on the floor of the concrete pool. This shock doesn't dissolve as quickly as other shock so it will eat the protective waxy skin off the black algae. (Good) It may not be as good for vinyl as by sitting, it could bleach the color out of the vinyl. (Bad) If you are concerned about bleaching, just fill a bucket with water and let the shock dissolve then pour into your pool. Or, as a home hack, just use a gallon of bleach instead. Also, people saying it doesn't work are showing pictures of the shock mixed with a bunch of leaves and sticks. Get all the garbage out of pool BEFORE you shock it! All those leaves have living algae on them that will grow like wildfire!! A little common sense goes a long way! Algae also grows in the pipes. It's important to completely eradicate the algae so that no spores are left to grow and multiply. Maintenance is easier than the initial killing of algae. Not easy but doable! Finally, make sure the water is oh balanced. A simple test kit can tell if water is to acidic (usually in my case) or too alkaline. Simple to add either baking soda to bring down the acidity (think time for the tummy) or add the opposite case murratic acid (think helping digestion in a stomach). The shock works best in pH balanced water. Finally, make sure the water has stabilizer! It's only added once when filling a pool. You can add some every time you add water or it rains. It helps hold the chlorine in the water to keep it from evaporating.

Affordable and very effective!
This is a great & effective lower-priced shock treatment! I use just one pound (one package) of it for weekly maintenance on my 15'x30' pool and it's enough to keep it sparkling clear. Keep in mind that chlorine levels aren't the only thing you need to monitor - Chlorine levels will fluctuate a lot if you're pH isn't stable (especially if you're not using a solar cover) so get the pH balanced and then get that Chlorine level up! My only complaint about this shock is that the granules are a bit large and you have to make sure they don't settle out on the floor of your vinyl liner or it could start bleaching the liner over time. To keep this from being a problem, either pour it in rather slowly into your skimmer and let your filter trap the granules or just go swimming about a half hour after treating the pool to kick it all up and help it dissolve.

I pretty much only use it after rainstorms
I'm lazy. I rarely get around to testing the water in my pool. It's easier for me to just dump half a package of shock into the water of my15 foot above ground pool every couple of weeks (and keep chlorine tabs floating around 24 hours a day). As long as I get no algae growth in my pool I'm happy. I mean, I'm the only one I have to please. :) Of course, that was last year. This year I've got things running so smoothly that the pool stays crystal clear with little help from me so I only tend to dump a little shock into the water after a heavy rainstorm. I just ensure there is chlorine in the floater. My filter runs on it's own and the tractor runs on it's own cleaning the bottom so don't even bother vacuuming anymore. My pool is pretty much maintenance free except for cleaning the filters now and then. Remember? I'm lazy. All that said, this shock does do the job it claims to do when it is needed. I always keep some on hand and never have any problem buying more when needed.

This box is the best price on a per lb basis
As one can figure out, this is a commodity chemical. The ingredients for this are the same as all the others so it just boils down to price. This box is the best price on a per lb basis. It works as advertised, I'm pleased. I have an order in on subscribe and save, so a fresh box shows up every month which is about as convenient as it gets. I just have to remember to term the subscription when I close up for the season. Now if only I could buy borax in a 20 lb bucket, I could get all my pool supplies from Amazon.
