FUN!!!
i've only used one of the nibs of the 10 nib set but i'm having so much fun drawing with it. they hold ink for a pretty long time. who needs fountain pens?? and the lines they make look so good. you can make a bold thick line or a fine tiny line with the same nib. i love em! i'm also using speedball "super black" ink

Good nibs. Good grip.
Good news: These are calligraphy pens. Bad news: It takes a lot of practice to write calligraphy. The nibs are holding up well under my clumsy pensmanship and I like the grip well enough. If you're looking to practice pretty pensmanship, this is a good tool

Functional and a lot of fun to work with
I am thrilled by this set of sketching pens/nibs. I have since upgraded the holders that I use, and settled on favorite nibs, so I don't frequently use anything from the set, but for less than $10 you're able to get two sizes of pens and several nibs. Everything that you need to get started, and to find out what you like and how you work (or even to find out that you don't like pens and nibs). Everything in this set is functional and a lot of fun to work with. There is enough variety in this inexpensive kit that I was able to zero in on what worked for me without buying 60 nibs and 10 holders. And I gotta say that I really appreciate these for being a good and economical way to start out with dip pens, it even comes with examples and instructions for starting out with pen and ink drawing and calligraphy. Too often entry-level products are so crappy they'll turn one off to a new field, and good products too expensive for the person who wants to experiment with something new. The Speedball nibs, holders, and inks are all good quality, and really inexpensive. Yes, there are better products out there in each of these categories (actually Speedball ink is still my favorite), but it was really nice to have all three available at a price that was not prohibitive. And really all three, the ink, nibs, and holders from Speedball are an adequate quality, I still use the "Hunt" 102 and 107 nibs and the holder, as well as Speedball black India ink all the time.

Smooth and long lasting
This comes with 6 nibs and 2 holders. It goes forever with just 1 dip. It is really smooth to use. I never used one before but wanted to try an ink and watercolor painting, it was nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be. I need more practice as I am not very experienced, but I was very impressed

It might be safer to get the nibs separate from holders.
Got the cartooning set. The blister sealed package arrived beat up in a brown envelope. Nibs function alright. The textbook says to give then an initial wipe down in gum Arabic; that helps get the Hunt 100 to start. Comic illustrators of traditional persuasion might prefer a 102 instead. The standard size nib holder says Chinese. This impedes my satisfaction a little. It might be safer to purchase nibs separate from holders. It's good to have this historic tool.

Little Flimsy
Very flimsy and cheap. Of course the big one is much better. They work well enough. It's good if you're just starting out and aren't sure if you want to do inking this way. One of the tips I had broke very quickly.

Pra tinta nanquim escorrer pelo bico de pena é preciso remover um óleo que ja vem na pena pra não enferrujar.

I have used many other nibs before I got my first set of speedball and I have to say, it is the best calligraphy nib that I have ever used. It induces fluidity in your handwriting and the flourishings looks light and unforced. I have taken calligraphy seriously in the last five years but I have been practising since late 80's.

You can't go wrong with Speedball products - they are economical and always good quality. This pen set is good for writing and drawing, with a variety of nibs. (Hunt 512 nib very good) Very pleased with purchase. The great thing about the two holders - one regular size, one smaller map size, is that they take most standard nib sizes so you can buy antique/vintage nibs which you find on ebay for very little and don't have to get a new pen.
