The Mythology of Grimm: The Fairy Tale and Folklore Roots of the Popular TV Show Paperback – Bargain Price, September 30, 2014

I'm almost done with this book now, so I thought I'd give it a review. I like it a lot! It's very interesting reading the mythology and folklore stories, some of which I never read before. I like that he has quotes from and notes about the show. You should know that this only covers the first season and some of the second season. That's okay though. I love about anything to do with the GRIMM show! I would recommend this for reading by any GRIMM fans out there. I'm sure I will read it again one day.Thank you so much to the author for taking the time to research and write this book. Someone else mentioned chuckling at some points. I definitely did that. It is a well-written book.

Delighted to have a copy of this book. Love the show, and it's nice to get more background. However, this gets 4 stars due to the scuff on the cover and the spine looking as though it's been read; if I had ordered a used copy this condition would have been expected, but when I pay $17 for a new copy that is exactly what I expect.

I really enjoyed this book. My mom was a great fairy tale teller. And this was just so interesting with all the tales I remembered and more about how they came about and are still being passed around, and how the Grimm brothers researched each one and brought it back again.

This book is definitely an insightful way to contemplate and illuminate the series, leading one directly into the Grimm Brothers folklore as well as, in the process, into some other selected Grimm-Brothers-unrelated mythologies.Certainly hooks up the reader to the show and to the books of fairy tales on the shelf. The author explores possibilities, retells (with some humor) the tales, simplifies, translates, and intentionally makes the complex material/symbolism/allusions easily digestible by anyone without any memory/knowledge of fairy tales, as this is (unfortunately) the current situation with so many younger readers and fans of the show. However, if someone is interested in delving a bit deeper into a more scholarly approach to the Grimm Brothers, it might be a good idea to read more academic (while still enjoyable and highly unsettling) works by Maria Tatar (scholarship in Germanic literature)--especially her excellent book titled The Hard Facts of the Grimms' Fairy Tales (the title says it all!).

Arrived fast condition good. Would of like more pictures and to go deeper into the series. I enjoyed the book inspired me to get the folklore & fairy tales.

I'm a huge fan of Grimm and wanted something that would explain the different creatures more thorough. I thought the book would have lots of pictures. I wanted to see illustrations of the creatures and weapons. I should of read the reviews before buying the book. There aren't any illustrations, however the author definitely did his research on the show and especially the weapons in Aunt Marie's trailer. It was difficult for me to follow all the names and descriptions without any pics to go along. I was very impressed by the authors knowledge of everything Grimm.

Being a lover of Grimm as well as a lover of folklore and fairytales, this was great! The retelling of the stories with the author's comments had me chuckling more times than not. Quotes from the series gave me mini-flashes of the story and the creatures involved in them. I would highly recommend this book for any Grimm lover and anyone who enjoys fairytales as well.Con

This book not only addresses the Vessen in Grimm but also the Grimm bros fairy tales and other fairy tales that the Vessen were based on. There are a lot of quotes from the characters of Grimm, esp. Monroe...Who I adore!
