Dated phone for modest users
Living under dire warnings that my ancient Tesco Mobile 2G phone was about to be defunct I had the job of selecting either a simple (4G) replacement or a budget smart phone. Bit of a toss-up, but I liked the idea of a palm-of-the-hand job with a leather case (paid extra). In practicality little more carry around weight than I had before. I had two problems with my SIM card. It was a large full-scale SIM (not the Nano this takes) and wasn't compatible with 4G! However a phone call to customer support brought me a new card through the mail. To be noted they turned off my old card at the start of the day it was meant to arrive and I was without phone for a few hours. If the post had been delayed I would have been in big problems. First impressions is that is fairly light and despite its age runs all my popular Aps well. Video playback and streaming is on the money. Not going to be using them on here apart from under emergency conditions, but nice to have them. Naturally you are have to do a bit of updating (even Android) and cleaning up. This might take a while so be aware if you want to use it straight away. The phone functions straight out of the box even without the upgrades. The phone came with no written instructions (easy to find on the internet) and no key needle for the SIM opening. Hardly a problem as any needle will do the job. Can but them separately for a few pounds. Charging cable and charger were cheap, but worked. Instructions are hardly needed if you have used a tablet before, but if you are total dinosaur then it could be tricky. Battery life is generally good and it is an all-day phone. Charges quite quickly. Camera is average, but that isn't bothering me. Sound playback is also very average, even through good headphones. Think of these things as bonuses. FM Radio was a bit duff too. Maybe my location? In summation, it is a dated phone (with price to match) that will get your basic needs done. Weight and size is a big plus as is the fast charging. I am giving it four out of five because of my very modest needs. If you are trapped on buses and trains for hours then you are probably wanting something a little better or newer. Probably bigger though and not quite as pocket sized.

Remove bloatware before sale
This is the third reconditioned/renewed A20e that I have purchased via Amazon in quick order. And they have all suffered from exactly the same problem. While professedly 100% cleansed, "unlocked" and SIM-free, they all continued to carry a previous carrier's branded software - (in the first two cases it was Vodaphone, in the current case it is EE, with all three phones presumably having been originally sourced via those networks) - which effectively prevented the SIM from my own mobile network provider (ID Mobile) from registering properly. As a result, whilst accessing the internet was fine, I was unable to make or receive any calls or texts, despite launching numerous factory and network resets to try and overcome the problem. So all the phones were effectively useless. Basically, upon restart, the phones insisted on welcoming me to Vodaphone/EE, and requiring me to install various Vodaphone/EE apps, and wouldn't take "no" for an answer. I recognize that the carry-over of service-provider-specific software is, potentially, a problem with all renewed, "network-unlocked" phones dating from prior to December 2021, but, when purchasing such a phone, and discovering residual firmware, I don't see it as being reasonable for me to have to identify which the original network service provider was - (although, in all three cases on this occasion, it was self-evident) - and then undertake time-consuming negotiations with the seller and/or network provider to have the firmware in question removed. If a seller is professing to have restored a phone to factory-gate condition, it follows that they should ensure that any and all pre-existing firmware from a previous service provider has been removed prior to re-sale. I want any phone (renewed or otherwise) to work seamlessly when I install my network's SIM. I don't want to have to faff around for hours trying to research what the particular problem is, and how (if at all) to overcome it.
