Hurst3838530 V-Matic 3 Shifter

I was hoping this was like the V-matic 2, but far from it. All it is is a POS B&M mega shifter with the hurst name on it. Hurst was the best. Was.

It's a good shifter but where the T-handle screws on seems a bit small in diameter and could break off which has happened to other users. I'm using it on a 4L60E so it's a 4 speed mode which you just remove a pin to go from 3 speed to 4 speed. But I had to modify the mounting bracket because I ran out of adjustment on the cable before it would shift correctly. In the description it sounds like it's a regular gate shifter and a rachet shifter which is misleading. You can't ever shift down to a lower gear without ratcheting through the gears. When you lift up the lock out you can shift from drive to park without ratcheting but the forward gears you still have to ratchet to downshift or up shift. The one thing that's annoying is you have to be in drive or park before you can lift up the lockout handle. I don't understand why they don't allow you to lift up the lockout handle in neutral or reverse. So to shift to park you must be in drive and no other gear. Also the cable cannot be anywhere near the exhaust pipes at all! If it's close you absolutely must cover the cable with some high temperature insulation and even then you still need some clearance at least an inch. I learned this the hard way. I had to double insulate my cable and actually had to go to a muffler shop and have the pipes moved away from the transmission. And I wrapped the exhaust pipe with exhaust wrap heat insulation. $50 for a cable that I had to do twice and plus the price of the muffler shop work it's an expensive lesson.

This has been the WORST nightmare of my life! After putting this in my transmition fried. After I got a new transmition it didn't shift right, usually skipped second gear, and when you come to a stop it shifts into neutral by itself. Oh, and on top of that the handle broke off because of the cheap metal they used to make it. Before that the whole shifter was wobbly and the handle never stayed in place, it never tightened, It would just keep spinning. I advise NOONE buy this piece of crap and go through the nightmare i've been through. Definitely not worth the money.
