if there was a 4 1/2 id give it that lol
the games are still very fun just as i remembered from the past =)! blast from da past! i gave it 1/2 off cause of the whole color glitch thing, for some reason the first AOE the water is the only thing thats color glitches but in the second AOE the trees, land and water are all glitched which i thought was weird. i have done some researching about those glitches and there are many different ways too get rid of it, but the one that was the easiest/quickest is "end processing" explorer.exe. i know it works on windows 7, not sure about the other operating systems, i hear windows 8 runs the game fine no color glitches or anything. ok so heres how it goes1. First click the AOE game you wanna play and when you are at the main menu alt + tab to get back to desktop NOW pay attention here =P. you have to bring up the "Windows Task Manager (WTM)", you can simply do that by pressing ctrl + alt + delete at the same time. that will bring up another screen that has like lock computer, switch user, log off etc etc, at the bottom of that should be START TASK MANAGER, click that. another way to get there instantly is by pressing ctrl + shift + Esc together. that brings up the WTM2. Once you are at the WTM go to the tab that says "Processes" you will see a bunch of different stuff that are currently running. now what you wanna do is find "explorer.exe" click it and on the bottom right of that window you'll see "end process", click that! it'll pop up another window asking "end process" or "cancel" click end process.3. Now what this does is takes away your start/task bar menu and your desktop icons which is NORMAL, in order to get back to the game just press alt + tab again and voila!! youll be playing the game without that annoying color glitch stuff! and also if you have other windows up like maybe some other game or web browser up you will STILL be able to play/browse around just press alt + tab again to that specified window.4. So you are done with the game and want all that stuff back, here's how! bring up the WMT again (see step 1). on the top left you will see "File" click that and then click "New Task (Run...) which will bring up "Create New Task" window. in that Open: bar type in "explorer.exe" click "OK" and PRESTO!!!! all that vanished is now back =)!as far as i know this doesnt harm your computer, as i said earlier im not sure if it works on any other OS i just know windows 7 for sure! later!

A Superb AoE Collection for Windows 10!
Since I was a child, I've always been a fan of the AoE franchise when Age of Empires released on October 15, 1997. Many years later and now an adult, I still love it and nerd out over it! At first, I was a bit skeptical and worried it would be the wrong product (I mean, the Amazon description didn't even apply to the Age of Empires Collector's Edition! Lol). Plus, I had my share of bad experiences on Amazon. But I took a gamble, and I am glad I did!PROS:- The case is in overall good shape with some MINOR WEAR.- The booklet is in excellent shape. NO DISC SCRATCHES! Discs are in excellent condition.- All CDs WORK! :D Installation and playing work fine on my 64-bit Windows 10 Home.CONS:- There's a plastic hanger glued to the back of the slipcover. There's also, as seen in the picture, strong tape on the top and bottom of the slipcover Sadly, attempting to remove these adhesives would leave a terrible tear on the slipcover. So, I've kept them on much to my displeasure. Please be aware this might happen to yours!- Unlike the AoE II discs, the AoE Gold Edition disc has no disk tray to sit on! So, it's just freely floating around in the plastic case, which is a little worrisome to me because that might scratch the CD in the near future. That's just me, though. Others might not mind this.SUMMARY:If you want brand new condition for your collection, then this might not be it for you. But if you just want a physical CD-ROM of the old games just to play them and add to your collection (not minding the condition), then this is for you. Personally, I'm a satisfied nerd of this product, and best of all the games work. :)

Awesome Classic PC Game
This is one of my all time favorite PC games. The variety of game play makes it fun for different people. Are you an aggressive conqueror? Just trying to finish this scenario as quickly as possible? Do you want to take your time building up your city and empire? Freeform games, scenarios, and campaigns are just some of your options. The scenario builder is one of my favorite features. Build custom scenarios from scratch, or modify existing maps. This edition has the original Age of Empires, the expansion pack Rise of Rome, Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, and it's expansion pack. The original is tons of fun, and what I play most. But there are some features that can get annoying. The AI for units is not the best, units tend to not know how to go around some things and get stuck until you guide them around things like forests or water. In Age of Kings, the AI is better. The castle age is fun and comes with some features I always wanted AofE to have. Two of my favorites: walls have gates that only let through you and your allies, and an idle unit button. Now as far as your computer goes, make sure you get the right edition. I bought the one for Windows XP, which I have, and I have had no problems in game play. No lag, colors are true and consistent, etc... This edition might run on a different operating system but it probably won't be glitch free.

A Good Friend, Back In The Flesh
Age of Empires: Collector's Edition is the single best release in the series. If you don't have Age of Empires 1 or 2 - or even if you do, buy it.Forget DRM, forget always-on internet connections, forget Steam Libraries. For the original, authentic version of AOE you knew and love, this is it.This isn't a review of the included games, but of the collection as a whole. The Good:Age of Empires doesn't require CD to play. The Bad:Some of the included games require a disk, and others don't. It isn't always clear which do.Included game versions do not have the latest patches applied. The Ugly:The Age of Empires games have not aged gracefully. More elegant games for a more elegant time, the interface was not designed with large displays in mind, and requires patching to work on modern computers.== How to Patch: ===== Age of Empires 1 ===Age of Empires I and Rise of Rome expansion must be installed.Browse to http://aoe.heavengames.com/dl-php/showfile.php?fileid=2477 and click on the red "Download File" button.Run it to patch for widescreen support. The patch also rebalances the game, and fixes numerous bugs.=== Age of Empires 2 ======= Method A ====Age of Empires 2 and The Conquerors must be installed. Then, download and run UserPatch from here:http://userpatch.aiscripters.net/It will require a disk to play, but it restores all planned functionality to the game. It also fixes dozens of bugs.==== Method B ====For just the widescreen support, download:http://web.archive.org/web/20130705054433/http://www.boekabart.net/aoe2wide/latestpatcher/AoE2WideSetup.msiThen navigate to /Microsoft Games/Age of Empires II/ and run aoe2wide.Disk not required to play after patch is installed.=== Recommended Mods ======= Age of Empires 2 ====The best mod is The Forgotten Empires.http://www.forgottenempires.net/install/The project began in 2011. Five "new" civilizations were added - the ones considered by Ensemble, but ultimately ignored. 11 years after the original game launched, modders learned how to add new civilizations (as opposed to replacing), new technologies, new gameplay modes. This patch not only adds new civilizations, it adds a new (custom) campaign, new AI, and widescreen support. The modders went on to assist with the Steam re-release. The modders also released the mod on Steam (with an improved UI) as an official expansion.==== Rome at War ====Before 0 AD, there was Rome at War.Wildfire Games wanted to see Age of Empires remade... and instead saw Age of Kings. When The Conquerors launched, Wildfire Games started to rework AoE:Rise of Romes' two best civilizations. And then they released Rome at War.Rome at War replaces the Mayans and Incas with the Greeks and Romans. Well balanced for multiplayer, this mod takes two civilizations at their peak and matches them against their later counterparts. This mod will patch The Conquerors and is not widescreen compatible.http://wildfiregames.com/raw/

Harkening Back to the Beginning
I can remember when I first played this game. A friend had the demo and from then on I was hooked on the series. Resource management, military strategy, (questionable) but fun voice work, and a good way to burn some time. This series has been a paramount part in my development as an RTS player. The nostalgia and the goofy smile (I probably get) when I play it means this series has and will have an everlasting effect on me.

Still playing it
Starting off with Age of Empires II and Age of Mythology, it seemed to be a step backwards. It was enjoyable to play but the inability to sent my men to the town center when attacked was difficult and took a lot more planning. That was probably the greatest thing about the game. I had to plan for every attack.
