Excellent product and great customer service
10/24/16 After I posted this Tappacue read it and emailed me so I’m happy to update to a couple of things. I added the updates in parenthesis.I wanted to use this a several times to be able to give a fair and accurate review. My background – I’m a KCBS Certified Judge, own a small BBQ catering business (part time) and am a full time IT project manager.I’ve been using a Bluetooth wireless temperature setup before trying this. The obvious shortfall with that set up was the range of that device and that’s what prompted me to buy this.First and foremost, I compared the temperatures from this to my Instant read thermopen, which is my gold standard. In every case the temperatures were within +/- 2° and most cases they were the same. Anyone who really depends on temp control knows how valuable this is. I do feel you can trust the temps to be accurate. As for the range, it’s virtually unlimited as long as you have access to the internet. They host the temperatures on their servers via the cloud. The positive on this is you could be anywhere in the world and check your temperatures or at Walmart buying things you forgot. Also, you’re not tied to your local (home) wifi network. In this respect, I like it. I could see this working just as easy on a local wifi network but that would limit you to around the house. My IT background loves this.To start a cook there’s a few screens that you walk through. I’ll try to post screen shots for this process. As you go through the screens you have to select a Meat (or fish) for each probe. On the last screen you have the ability to change the temperature range, which I like. The naming convention is a little strange, at least to me. You can also change the temps during the cook. For example, I set the min and max, for when I wrap my brisket and then reset it for when I start checking to see if it’s done. This is a small work around that could be better handled with better programming but it easily works. (I was wrong. There is a "quick temperature view" in the session which shows all four temperatures at once.)I believe it’s safe to say this product will provide solid and accurate temperatures that can be accessed from most any device. My temperature comparisons were all within very narrow margins and every cook was spot on, which is awesome. I would recommend this to anyone that needs access to their temps via wifi.I contacted Support for a small clarification and got a response within 24hrs. Every time I emailed back they either responded the same day or the next and they handle my issue without any problems. I think, from a customer service standpoint, they’re very responsive. Also, be aware this does not run off a battery and will need to plug in. That’s not a negative for me but fyi (update there are battery options that are coming available and one users posted on FB)The negatives or potential for improvements (IMO), which is more technical (UI) and customer experience based.A negative to me. It comes with 4 probes. What I didn’t realize you could buy different probes for an additional cost. They’re color coded and I think built a little better but don’t hold me to that. My first thought is why wouldn’t this be the standard when you have a 4 probe device? When you have 4 probes, stuck in all different places it’s a mess. My vote is to color code all of them. At some point, I’ll buy the color coded probes just because it’s easier to keep track of them. (I didn’t realize but at this time – the color probes are done by hand. They’re actively looking for a better solution and I think it will become the standard at some point.)You can save your cook (time and temperature data) but at a cost $1.99 or you can pay a monthly fee, around $10 (I think). They allow you to get 3-4 free. I did get one emailed, not sure it was one of my free ones but it was a text (.csv) file, which was useless. I can’t say this is a negative or positive because I haven’t fully tested this. However, I think there’s potential to provide a better customer experience in this area. (Like I mentioned earlier I didn’t really test this but received some great information from Tappacue. The Tappecue SessionBook is a paid subscription for people who want to save their data on our servers... however, it doesn't cost anything for your data. It's emailed to you after every session if you choose for it to be so. It comes in a .csv format which can be imported into our Excel Macro downloadable from the website (which does all the hard work for you so that you can have an excel graph of your data on your own computer). If you want us to keep all your data, it drives up our server costs, which is why we charge a minimal fee for that. That can be downloaded from this page [...] look for Graph for windows or Mac – this isn’t explained very well on the site)The iphone app – could be so much more. First, it only shows one temperature probe at a time vs seeing all four listed. Now, you can easily move to each probe with a touch but it would be nice to see all four listed at a glance. The app is underutilized based on programming for the end user. I would love to this app expanded. (They’re working on improving this to the point of getting rid of the desktop set up application)The setup app is easy but is in need of an update. It’s clunky, a little confusing and could be used for so much more. Again, a wasted opportunity to provide the customer with a useful piece of software to evaluate the cook. (see above paragraph)On a side note- the website also needs work. It’s not very intuitive and isn’t mobile friendly.Overall, I gave this 4 stars because the temperatures are accurate and can be easily accessed anywhere and knocked it down a star because the app or UI is underwhelming and could be capable of so much more. I think there’s so much more opportunity that can be provided to the customer and I really look forward to see where they go with this. However, before I posted this I ran into an issue of my own making so I bumped them to 5 stars based on customer service, their response was awesome. I mentioned their quick turnaround earlier from a tech support but with my personal issue they were outstanding == can’t say good enough things about it.I consider myself an intermediate cook and continue to grow in this area. I would highly recommend this probe based on three main points: 1. Accuracy (every cook the temps are dead on) 2. Web access to my temps 3. Customer service (excellent)

Barbecue hero
This is a review of the Tappecue 4 Probe Remote BBQ Thermometer with apps, purchased in September of 2015.I had a bit of trouble, but that was because I tried to setup the device with Linux instead of Windows. I was unable to get the setup program to run under Wine. It did work fine, however, from a virtual machine running Windows. I had setup the device at work, giving it my home wifi information, but when I got home it didn't work. The wifi setup software is clumsy as well. You have to enter each item, then click save / apply. And you have to do it in order too, if you do the last one first the first item will erase the rest. However, I'm used to this sort of thing so I'm not taking any stars off for this. Just use Windows and you'll be fine. There's a Mac installer too, but I like Mac OSX even less than Windows so I have no idea how well it works.BUT. Once I got past that stage (and it would have taken about 2 minutes if I'd started with a Windows machine while on my home wifi) it was an amazing experience. I was actually able to leave the house while smoking a couple of chuck roasts, which is a first. In fact, we had a whole family outing (which is not short when you have three year old triplets) and I was able to keep an eye on the temp the entire time. I have an electric smoker, so I didn't have to worry about keeping the heat at the right temp by adding wood or anything. The Good:You can set any of the probes to be a chamber probe and it will monitor the temp. Which was interesting, because it showed the chamber temp at the top to be nearly 50 degrees cooler than at the bottom. Which is fine, since you really want to keep that top vent open, but in the future I may close it partially when it isn't actually smoking. And that's great, because I learned something that will make my next smoke go a lot better. The food probes worked perfectly. I was able to put a probe in meats at different levels (it's a vertical smoker) and keep an eye on things. It was enlightening that the bottom rack heated up so much more quickly than the top. I was able to pull the sausage out before it dried out.The app works anywhere, as long as you have internet access and the tappecue does as well. I could check the temps on my phone via cellular data since the device uploads all of its data to a "cloud" server for you to access. There is a pretty little graph that helps more than you'd think, because you can see trends. So you can see when it stalls, you can see when it's ramping up and so on.You can set alarms, with a "Min" and a "Max". The alarms work differently depending on whether the probe is a "chamber" probe or a meat probe. Chamber probes give an alarm any time the temperature crosses a threshold. So if it goes above the max or below the min you get an alarm (and another when it crosses back). For the meat probes you get notified once when it hits the min, and again when it hits the max. The alarm, on android at least, is entertaining. It gives this weird alert sound then announces "Check your meat" in a robotic voice several times. That's got to be fun if you're buying lingerie or something. Might be a problem at your kid's dance recital however. The bad:I've only used it once, so it may be user error, but the alarms didn't quite work the way I expected them to (even knowing the above). It went off more than I expected it to. Take this with a grain of salt, it was just unexpected. Doesn't mean it wasn't correct. The app lets you share screen shots, like the quick temps screen. But I couldn't figure out how to share the graph screen, which is the coolest screen by far. I'll go back and read the manual, there may be a way to do it, but I didn't see an easy to use share icon on that screen. The skinny: A very nice gadget, it did what I really wanted it to which was monitor a bunch of temp probes from anywhere. No more getting one thing right but sacrificing another because I don't have enough temp probes. I'm not a pro, but I won't be smoking anything to a dry rock anymore, so my family might start thinking I am. Which is the point, right? I get to be the barbecue hero.

Highly accurate, easy to use, and great flexibility
This is my third electronic, probe based thermometer. I've used this thermometer on a couple of cooks now - it works the best of any of them. Accurate, flexible - up to four different meats can be monitored simultaneously. Good quality probes. Nice software for monitoring and recording each cook.I've been smoking meat for a while now - love the flexibility of monitoring longer cooks via wifi (from my phone) - especially when you get notified when desired temperature is reached.I do wish I could buy the all weather case available in the US - as it is if the weather is unsettled I slip it into a baggy to provide a bit more protection.

Buy one!
Looked at a bunch of alternatives and settled on the Tappecue. Setup and pairing were quick and easy. Unit arrived at least partially charged and ready to go. Used it first to monitor a pork shoulder, during which I did some running around and played a round of golf. As nothing varied on my smoker, no alerts arrived, but it was easy to check up on temperatures using my phone. It has performed flawlessly for me every use since. Very happy with this purchase.

Great improved product!
I've been using a previous version of the Tappecue wifi thermometer and recently upgraded to the Tappecue Touch. Very user friendly, much improved user interface. I use it for business and I truly like the saving session data options to keep every smoking session on files. Great product and also very fast and super effective online service!

Get that perfect grill
I use my tapacue wifi thermometer all the time while grilling on the gas BBQ or on the smoker. The accuracy in chamber temp and meat temp is really helpful in cooking everything to the correct temp and doneness. Touchscreen is a little slow to response and initial set up can be a bit frustrating but all around a great product
