So far so good...
Following some other instructions and adding some color of my own for the Packout rolling tool box mod (I was trying to get it into the trunk of my car without laying on it's side): 1) Remove sheet metal screws on back of bottom of Packout box holding in the current handle; 2) Remove handle completely; 3) Drill both the original holes in the metal handle and holes in plastic of tool box with 3/16" bit (this came from another poster and it's a really good fit), trying to drill through both the plastic and the metal at the same time can be a little tricky because you are trying to keep everything lined up so save yourself the trouble and drill them separately - you just want to go through the first layer of metal; 4) Tap the plastic hole with a 1/4 x20 tap (or alternatively use a 1/4 x 20 bolt and a ratchet but go slow since you don't have the benefit of the taper on the tap); 5) Screw in the part, you won't get it that far in because you lose a bit of purchase on it and it just starts to spin; 6) remove the ring temporarily; 7) find a 1/4" shallow wall nut driver and tighten more (I tightened mine until just a bit of the ring hole was inside the box and had to sand a bit of the outside of my nut driver to get it in); I've read a few people say the part wasn't long enough and I think it's probably just not in far enough); 8) put back on the ring; 9) slide in handle and voila. Took my sub 10 mins. I haven't punished this thing much but so far feels very solid.

Great as an upgrade to Milwaukee PACKOUT™ Rolling Tool Box (48-22-8426)
One of the big downers of the Packout rolling toolbox is that the handle doesn't drop flush to the top of the box. If you are trying to stuff this box into a trunk, that's a big problem. These little guys help alleviate that issue by letting you remove the handle easily. You just remove the two screws that hold the handle in, thread the plastic with a tap that matches the threads on these spring plungers, screw them into the plastic then drill the two holes in the handles just a tad bit bigger so the plungers will go into them. Done. now all you have to do to pop the handle out is pull on the two plungers. Easy peasy! Now you can close your trunk!

Pricey but effective
I bought these thinking I would get two in a pack. I was highly disappointed only to get one for the price (the only reason for the 4-star over 5). They are quality products. I needed it for the Packout kit to remove the handle. I see low and high reviews, so I decided to show that it works with little effort. I used a 3/16th bit to drill the hole out, including the metal pole. I then tapped the plastic with a 1/4-20 tap (don't touch the metal). I removed the rings, used the bit end nut driver in my standard kit to drive the plunger in snugly, and then put the key ring back on. I did a feel test to be sure the plunger wasn't protruding too far or not far enough. The 3/16th hole was just enough to drop securely with no play. I may find smaller key rings and fit a nylon flap on the end to remove the chance of catching on the ring somewhere. However, I can easily remove the handle by pushing down the rings hard enough and pushing up the bottom of the handle (it needs effort on the ring, but not easily enough to pop out by simple catches). Won't lie; I was worried it wouldn't work, but I took my chance and won this round favorably.

Works to modify your Milwaukee Packout
Tapped for 1/4-20 tread, used the same drill bit to enlarge the hole in the handle the sheet metal screws were in. The only issue is the handle is very tight as it was not designed to be taken on/off, lubed with some light oil works great.

Used to modify my milwaukee packout rolling tool box
Drilled the holes a little bigger where the handle goes in and installed this! Now i can easily remove or attach my handle in under 15 seconds and stuff my packout in the trunk of my Honda Civic...awesome! Works great under a load of 80+ lbs.

Too short to use for PackOut handle mod
Bought these to use for the Milwaukee PackOut handle removal modification. But the threaded portion is too short to reach as far as is needed to secure the handle. Not sure how other reviewers are able to make it work. A 0.5" thread length is what is required. There is nothing obviously wrong with the spring pin itself. It just won't work for this purpose.

Nice quality unit!
When I received the item the pin was stuck and wouldn't compress. With a little force it freed and works perfectly now. Used as a location pin for my boat electronics slide mount. Looks like good quality materials.
