EGO POWER+ 15" Cordless Weed Trimmer with Battery and Charger - ST1502SA

Overall out of the box it looks to be a great sturdy and light weight battery power string trimmer. Worthy of 5 stars. BUT... I have yet to test this out due to this was Black Friday item and now winter time, will have to wait until spring and summer. As of now I was able to check and or test out the battery and charger. Battery came partially charged about 20% to 40%. I decided to charge the battery to full charge thereby also testing the charger. The charger : At first plug in, both red and greed light simultaneously flashes ONCE (a good sign). Upon connecting the battery, the charger started to hum from silent to loud and started to smell like something is burning. ( I got nervous and disconnect and unlatched the battery and unplug from the outlet.). Back to reading the manual (still not clue). But my understanding was the cooling fan. Research some YouTube videos. Conjured up some courage to try again. Plugged in the charger and connect the battery. Same thing as stated earlier. Held my breath and left it connected and allow it to charge (supposedly). I made sure after 15 min. to check up on it just to make sure it had not started to catch fire or exploded. So far so good. After 1hr on the charger, went to check on it; press on the battery power button and the indicator light was solid on 4 bars and 5th bar was flashing (good sign I thought). After 1 and 1/2 hr went back to check again and Bam! battery was fully charged. BUT the charge still was humming, noise was not loud but you can still hear it. Conclusion was that the loud noise was the cooling fan working to cool the charger while it was charging. This needs to be clearly stated in the manual. Once battery was fully charged I decided to dry operating the trimmer, connect the battery and squeezed both levers and Bam!......IT works. Other than that, so far I have a working product/item. Can't wait until spring/summer. Finally : I recommend this. Update (December 2023) : Got a chance to test this item on my backyard in December month. This trimmer works and operation really as expected and better than others I have own. It has power. My backyard size is 30ft X 95ft. Did the whole backyard filled with dried and dead weeds (that was still standing, 6in to knee high) just fine without using anymore string. I did not even notice that the string was jammed but was able to finish my yard. (Note : Possibly string can be easily jammed or even ran out without even knowing it, only that the string got shorter or too short). The battery used was 2 bars to do my whole backyard. Good sign that one full charge can and will do my whole back yard.

First use, I am impressed. Power is amazing, the bump string feed works well, battery seems to last well used to trim the back yard all along fence about 200' and around trees, no mater how big the weed was it cut it well. I will keep updating as I use it. No gas just squeeze the trigger and off you go. Thank you Ego for your good product.

This thing is awesome and surprised me with how much power it had. The reload function is really nice and it’s lite enough for your wife, mom or sister to use. Would definitely recommend safety glasses, this thing was throwing grass and rocks everywhere! The 2.5AH battery lasted around half an hour which gave me time to weedeat the perimeter of my double wide modular home with a large flowerbed on one side that became a little over grown with grass. The reload option was so nice and easy to use. I would recommend using thicker sized line (not the cheap thin line that Amazon says you should buy with this) and go with the 5AH battery if you have the coin. They make cheap Chinese knockoff batteries for around 80 bucks that would do the trick. This weedeater comes with a 5 year warranty and 3 year warranty on the battery so that’s super awesome. Would recommend this weedeater all day!

Very nice weed eater, decent weight and nice fit for the length of the trimmer. Very good value for money, able to cut through woody knapweed like it is nothing. No hot gas engine either making it much more comfortable on a hot day. Battery lasted for about 30 - 45 mins on a heavily over grown patch of thick woody weeds. Auto feed needs a bit of a push at times if the cord gets nicked down fast though.

I’ve had this for two years and use it for pretty light duty around my home. Yesterday I used it on a large overgrown lot and it worked great. I get about 40 minutes of constant or nearly constant use before the battery quits. Then I charged it for probably 20 to 30 minutes and it was about 2/3 charge so I was able to finish my job pretty quickly.

I am disappointed to report that the battery with this trimmer started to leak black oil the 5th time it was used. I contacted EGO customer service. After sending photos and reviewing the defect, I was told to remove the product id number and dispose of the battery. EGO was going to send me a replacement battery under warranty. EGO told me the battery was defective. The next day, EGO said they would not send me the replacement battery because I had violated their warranty policy. I had previous applied for warranty coverage and was approved for warrant coverage. I was told, " BECAUSE I PURCHASED FROM AMAZON, AND THE DEALER AMAZON USED WAS NOT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, THIS VIOLATED THE WARRANT POLICY". I had no way of knowing that Amazon's third party dealer was not an authorized dealer. I didn't even think the battery was defective. I asked them if it could be used. They said it was defective. Great news. So the customer loses warranty coverage due to an issue he has not control or knowledge of? I wrote back to EGO and told them that if a negative review, from a previous satisfied customer, my decision not to buy other EGO products, and my decision to tell family and friends that EGO doesn't honor their warranty policy for defective products after initially say the would, if all of that is less value than the cost of a replacement battery, THEN DON'T SEND THE REPLACEMENT. I asked EGO to review this incident with they QUALITY department and see if this is good policy? This hardly meets the defenition of " meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of customers first time, on time, every time". Good luck to EGO. They lost a valuable customer. I suspect it is not the first or last time this will happen.

I was hoping it would be worth the price, but the first time I used it, it blew my mind! It is powerful, easy to assemble, and looks great. I did my entire house in less than fifteen minutes (it used to take me at least half an hour). I love it! I plan to buy some additional equipment so I can use the powerful battery with all of them!

It is only been a few weeks but so far so good. This trimmer has exceptional power I often have to give it less power than it’s capable of so it’s not to be excessive in what I needed to do. If it should last me as long as my gas operated, trimmer lasted me, I will be more than satisfied

I like that it is environmentally friendly also don’t have to wear earmuffs I would like to see the battery last longer maybe if they had a five amp hour battery instead of a 2.5

SOOO nice not to have to deal with gasoline and oil. Charge lasts long enough to do entire yard (60' x 160') with several gardens/trees and fences to trim around.

Like any other the string gets caught and you have to take it apart to clear the jam. Otherwise it does an excellent job.

Great machine, arrived in a timely manner

The battery which has a 3 yr warranty became defective after 2 yrs and less than 25 hrs on it. Ego will not honour the warranty as Amazon purchased this item from an unauthorized distributor. Buyer beware. Check where Amazon purchases the product for warranty information before you buy.
