The inlaid board is nicely finished. It is matt and very smooth. It is not luxurious but neither does it look or feel cheap - it's good looking and feels like a board for club or tournament play. It's pleasant to use and came properly packaged - no damage anywhere. I put a very thin coat of danish oil on my board to protect it a little more (without getting it glossy or reflective) - but it was not necessary to do so. I like the pieces the best - the black pieces are a deep brown, satin finish and feel good in the hand. The white pieces are a satin/creamy finish and all are well designed. King and Queen are appropriately taller than the rest. The rooks are large enough not to be dwarfed. The bishops don't look anything like the pawns and the pawns are not too short or stubby. The size and weighting of the pieces is just right and they handle nicely. Though attractive, you should not expect this to look like an ornamental chess set, but neither is it supposed to be - the set is made for playing and looks/feels very good for that. I use it for games and also for setting up and working through chess puzzles. Storage box is finished to a decent enough standard. The inserts needed glueing in (my preference), but otherwise no issues. Overall, I would say the quality is good for this price, for a board, box and pieces.

This is a large chess set and is fantastic value. While it's terrible for traveling it's an amazing experience for chess at home and really elevates the game.The pieces are well carved and weighed and feel substantial.I had a small issue with damage during transit but after contacting the seller they've sorted it out for me. Highly recommend, excellent customer service and a beautiful chess set for a very good price.

On paper looks like a great set. In reality, its another low quality Amazon product dressed up to look good. All the wood is thin laminate which has been applied with little or no craftsmanship in mind. Dissapointing given the price and looking at the reviews this isnt the first one along these lines

The size, quality, and finish of the board are excellent. As regards the pieces all are well made and feel substantial in the hand. The square numbering is a welcome feature. I noticed some reviews mentioned faults with certain pieces or the board, both pieces and board arrived in perfect condition, well packed, and within 24 hours of ordering. The box for the pieces is sturdy enough. I'd recommend this set to anyone who wants a substantial product.

Absolutely thrilled with the quality of this set, the board came very well packaged and was in perfect condition. The case for the pieces is beautiful and again very sturdy and high quality. The pieces themselves feel great and have a fair bit of weight to them. Very happy with this product!

Great chess board and boxed pieces.

Purchased for Christmas present and shocked at the quality where to begin:Chess pieces and box missing from consignment.Numbers and letters out of alignment.Numbers and letters badly painted and parts of numbers missingBoard edges rough and splintering wood edges. The photos do not show how bad this actually is.Marks on board that are wood splinters that cannot be removed. Embedded in the surfaceAbsolutely shocking board and the quality is terrible. Please do not even consider purchasing this.Not the cheapest board set and i did not expect top quality but this is unusable. Apart from the chess pieces missing the board has damage throughout. Returned the board is actually dangerous with splintering on edges children and safety issue.Avoid this make at all cost.Now in an interesting conversation with the company. They asked me keep the chessboard and not to leave a bad review and now blaming Amazon. Again avoid
