This is Rainbow Brite?
I've read up to issue 3 and we don't even get Rainbow Brite until the end of issue 2. This is definitely a very different take on the iconic 80's character. It's promoted for kids but it either goes very wordy or very juvenile. If it's banking on nostalgia, it doesn't deliver. The art is okay, not great, but passable. The story tries to play off of the Rainbow Brite origin story, with a lot of the typical "look I'm a tomboy so I'm redefining femininity" story elements you would expect in a "re-boot for today." I think it tries so hard to "update" to "today's ideals" that it just falls flat on the story. But to be fair, I think re-booting any beloved or iconic property is a very hard thing to do, but if nothing else, for the price, they should have Rainbow Brite show up well before she did. Maybe it's for you, but it was NOT for this Rainbow Brite-loving gal.
