Windsor Smith Homefront: Design for Modern Living Hardcover – April 7, 2015

I debated whether to rate this book as 5 stars or 4. Eventually the beautiful photos and the inspiring text won.The main problem with this book is that for all of her talk about making rooms usable spaces the photos feel staged and not so usable. Several times I noticed a beautiful room with occasional tables too far away so that they wouldn't be usable for whoever was sitting there. There was one room where she mentioned the piano was moved to the center of the room so that the room might be used more but I failed to understand how having a sofa placed so you are sitting staring at the piano would make me want to go in the room and sit there.These are just a few examples but I enjoyed reading her text and the photos are scrumptious

I have such a design crush on Windsor Smith. I believe it really started when she did that gorgeous, pink, living room on the cover of House Beautiful. Then, of course there was the fantastic kitchen, with all the light, large table that you could just feel people gathered around; but, it was still equiped for a serious cook to whip up some culinary ecstasy.Her book did not disappoint me in any way. In fact, if anything it only reaffirmed my crush.I truly do enjoy seeing what Windsor Smith will be "creating" next in beautiful interiors.

Spectacular Tome of an amazing designer and her influence on an uniquely modern for the times home! The photo is crisp and clear. The book is of good quality. Windsor Smith is one to follow!

Great design work! It took me a long time to purchase this book since I'm not a fan of traditional design. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Windsor Smith's design work, while generally traditional, has a modern element. I could actually see myself being happy living in some of these homes, even though I prefer modern design. The book itself is very well made with large clear photographs and heavy, high quality paper. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Simply an inspiring picture book and good solid writing as well. I'm sure I'll enjoy this for many years. I'll also be planning using a LOT of the ideas for the next real estate makeover. Thank you, Windsor Smith.

good book fr what it is - not instructional but pretty photos
