The Alfa Class SSN is interesting b/c it had a titanium hull and a small nuclear reactor, allowing it to cruise the oceans at high speeds. As such, the Alfa was fast enough to strike fear into the hearts and minds of American submariners in charge of operating the Seawolf and Los Angeles attack submarines. Fortunately, the USSR's dissolution made the threat posed by the Alfa-class SSN null and void.
