Baron Banana Ketchup, 14 Ounce

I wasn't sure what to expect with this product. I have GERD and other gastric issues so I have to stay away from anything acid or tomato based. No garlic, no onions. I was trying to find something that would "replace" ketchup and found this product. Other commenters raved about it but I wasn't sure. I must tell you, I absolutely agree with them! I'm thrilled I took a chance and ordered a bottle. It is unique tasting! I was afraid I was going to be having mashed bananas on my hamburger BUT that isn't the case. Yes, there is a hint of banana but it is not overwhelming and truly adds to the taste. The sauce has a little "zip" to the flavor which is obviously various spices but not strong. It is the same consistency as ketchup. I had it on my burger this evening and can't wait to try it with other meals. I can even anticipate it with baked French fries. I have a feeling I will find it is great to use in recipes. I highly recommend trying a bottle. I guarantee I will be ordering more! Update: I still am thrilled with this product. Absolutely NO issues with heartburn or any of my gastric acid problems. I'm really surprised because there is definitely a kick to the sauce but boy it doesn't bother me one bit. I use this on everything. I even used it for a ham sandwich and it was awesome. Hotdogs, baked French Fries, meatloaf, chicken and anything else you can think of. Oh, try it on a baked potato and you will love it!

What is banana ketchup anyway? Turns out, in my case, this is a somewhat pricey - but very tasty - substitute for yellow mustard. I love mustard on hotdogs and other foods but somehow developed an allergic reaction to its ingredients. Regular tomato ketchup just wasn’t a good option. Yes, this product costs definitely more than my grocery store’s mustard products, but it’s worth the price of avoiding endless blistering on my lips and inner cheek lining. The taste is similar to higher end honey mustard.

The top was not designed for transit in a bag. There was the standard ketchup brown/black goo around the neck. The ketchup itself was fine after 15 minutes of removing the black residue.

I cannot overstate how much we love this. I’m allergic to tomatoes, so this makes it so we can both enjoy catsup. It’s zesty, it’s flavourful, it’s fun and interesting, and even gives body to recipes we usually wouldn’t be able to replicate. Don’t get it wrong — it can get a bit banana-y in the wrong setting, but in the right one, it’s divine! Just takes trial and error. And yes, it’s not as cheap as when as when I first tried it 30 years ago…but NEWS FLASH! Nothing is. Duh. Also, any history buff should look up why this product exists. Seriously. Anyway, it’s delicious and won’t kill you/give you hives if allergic to nightshades! <3

My nephew and I love bananas. I had heard about this on a podcast and thought it would be something fun for the kids and I to try! My nephew and I really like it but everyone else was...polite. Ha! We like it on burger, spring rolls or rice dishes etc. Give it a shot! Try something new! Ps. I can't really speak too much about the quality or taste in comparison as this is the only one I have tried.
