The cure for leaky refill tanks.....
OK. I have to admit I ordered this trying to fix a problem I have with about every 10th Blue Rhino tank refills I get from Walmart. What happens is that "10th" tank leaks and I have to take it back for a replacement. I have tried the tanks on 5 different propane devices and the leak on the "outside" threads. This little jewel screws into the inside threads and lets me use the leaky tank on any of the devices with no leaks.I don't know how those guys on the refill tanks check them but I know I am not the only one that has this problem. So, if you are tired of going back to the store to swap out the "leaky" tank, get this adapter. It will work like a charm and best of all, with no leakage, your safe to fire up that grill!

Inconsistent parts, but both work well.
This review is for the GrillPro 11051 Universal Fit Propane Tank Adaptor, AISN B0029T5U0A.First some terminology. There are two types of fittings on LP tanks used in RVs and gas grills, POL (Prest-o-Lite) and Acme (OPD). The old-style POL fittings have left-hand threads and tank valves will allow gas to escape if the valve is opened with nothing attached. POL fittings are almost always attached with a wrench. The newer Acme fittings have larger threads and are attached by hand. Tanks with Acme fittings do not allow gas to escape unless something is attached to the valve. These tanks cannot be over-filled, since there is a float inside to prevent this, hence the alternate designation: OPD (Overfill Prevention Device). When I read the reviews I was having trouble relating some of the comments to the object pictured. As it turns out, GrillPro ships at least two, and possibly more, different adaptors under this same part number. I ordered three adaptors and received two different kinds. I will post a photo of the two types I received. The most obvious difference between the two types is that one has a handwheel to attach the adaptor to the female POL fitting and the other requires a wrench (1-1/8"). The handwheel adaptor is made in China and the wrench adaptor is made in Italy. The quality of the Chinese-made adaptor appears to be slightly better than the other, but not enough to matter. These adaptors have male POL threads on one end and male Acme threads on the other, allowing you to attach an old-style (POL) tank to a new-style (Acme) hose. In keeping with standard practice, both adaptors also have female POL threads inside the Acme end of the fitting, but that feature doesn't matter, since the purpose of the adaptor requires that you are starting with a female POL fitting. In spite of documentation to the contrary, both fittings are easily removed and can be reused indefinitely.I am very pleased with the fittings I received and would buy either kind again if I need more. The price is reasonable. If you have an old or large LP tank and you need to use it with the new Acme hose, this adaptor will do the trick very well.Highly recommended.

Great it if worked all the time.
Works intermittently.I bought this because my girlfriend loves to cook outside and has a Large Smoker, Oil-less Turkey Fryer, Crayfish cooker and nice Stainless Grill that all run off propane. This adapter goes on a 60lb propane bottle a friend gave us since he loves her cooking as well.I installed it and it worked fine the first time. Next several times I tried to use it would not flow gas. I removed the valve and reseated but it would not work. I spoke with the guy at my local refilling station and he said they have a safely valve that sometimes get triggered. He said to turn the gas on slow. The last several times we have used it have been during cooler weather and it has worked.I wish it worked 100% of the time, If it did I would definitely give it a higher rating.I called the manufacture and they confirmed about the safety shutoff and that the the gas knob needs to be turned on SLOWLY to prevent the inrush of gas from triggering the safety. I will try this and see if corrects the problem. If not they said I have a one year warranty.

Does the job
This is well made. I have an old tank with a fitting that is no longer allowed to be filled and does not fit the new stoves and grills. I really did not want to just waste a full 20 lb cylinder of propane so I bought this. It works great and now I can use my new stove and will run this old tank until it is empty. And, like a good Tennessean,, will chuck it along side the road when empty. JUST KIDDING!...I will dispose of it properly. And yes, I know that this unit probably costs more than the gas in the tank.

Works like a champ
Works like a champ. It beats taking my nice $2000 Weber grill and trashing it, because that is what Weber Australia wanted me to do because of some code BS. Only one thing I learned. My grill was in storage for a year and some oxidation had developed on my gas injectors. So I had a really low output the first time I used it. I thought I might have done something wrong. But the second time all the oxidation had burnt off and that puppy blazed like the sun. I highly recommend this product.

POL adapter
I just bought two of these to use with two 100 lb cylinders I use with my motorhome. The advantage with these is quick, tool-free hook-ups, and filling stations can use the acme thread filler nozzles. What I received, 1-9-13, does not look like the picture Amazon is using. (I have provided a new photo.) They have plastic grips. Apparently, the construction details have changed over time. One important note- I saw that one reviewer said these are not removable. There are similar adapters called Retro-Q adapters that are designed to be non-removable. That is not what these are. They CAN be removed and used with different tanks. And a caution- if you keep these for several years, you should replace the o-ring on the nose when it shows signs of aging. Anyway, this item looks to be well made and good quality. Happy camper here.Update 10-2014. I see Amazon has updated their photo of this item and it is now like the adapters I received. Their photo does not show the rubber nose o-ring, and the o-ring WAS included with mine.
