Can you replace the plastic casters with metal ones?

I replaced the casters with larger diameter ones to make for a smoother ride over carpet. Had a hard time finding the ones I wanted but eventually got them through one of the two hardware chain stores.

Would the gold hardware get dull/blackened over time?

mine still looks as good as it did when I bought it and I have taken it outside

Is this item chessboard or real wood?

I assume that was meant to be press board but I don't really remember. I gave the cart to a friend a year ago. It's not bad for the money actually but other than the small parts I doubt it was real wood.
