Several Support Socks Compared
Since several manufacturers offer support socks in various sizes and compression levels, users are likely to find socks that meet their individual needs. With that in mind, this review assesses the characteristics of three types. All of these were effective in reducing swelling and fatigue. All (for sizes 10.5-12) were comfortable over size 11 feet, but might be a little tight over size 12 feet. Naturally, such socks are somewhat more difficult to put on and take off than ordinary socks, but can be managed by persons with normal strength. Support socks provide compression that is tight at the ankle, and gradually reduced over the calf. Compression levels for these socks are indicated in “mmHg” (millimeters of mercury). Levels of up to 20mmHg are appropriate for general use. Socks with greater compression are available, but perhaps should be used only if recommended by a physician. Gentle hand washing may prolong the life of these socks. They should not be wrung out, but should be allowed to air dry.Dr. Scholl’s Graduated Compression (Mild Compression 10-15 mmHg) Large (10.5-12)These socks give good compression around the ankles, but considerably less compression around the calf; thus, they are more likely than some others to sag. They extend about 17 inches above the ground. Although guaranteed to last for one year, they are relatively fragile—if you pull them up aggressively, your fingers can actually puncture the material. The manufacturer’s directions are somewhat confusing—particularly the phrase, “Use the palms of your hands to massage the sock upwards toward the knee.”Gold Toe (Compression Firm 22mmHg) Large (10.5-12)These socks are somewhat tighter and harder to put on and take off than Dr. Scholl’s Graduated Compression (10-15 mmHg) socks (above). But when worn feel no less comfortable than lower compression socks. These are relatively long, they can be pulled up to 18 inches above the ground, and thus, depending on the length of the calf, could constrict blood flow behind the knee. But, if not pulled fairly high, they can sag and bunch up around the ankle. The manufacturer’s instructions are clear: “Hold socks at top, thumbs in, fingers out. Gather [sock] between thumb and fingers until foot is in sock. Adjust heel and stretch sock up leg. Pull tightest past ankle, less tight past calf.” “Do not fold top over. Remove sock by placing thumbs in top and turning inside out. Pull down and off leg.”Dr. Scholl’s Graduated Compression (Firm Support 20-30 mmHg) Large (10.5-12)It is not clear why the manufacturer provided such an indeterminate specification of the compression level. This is probably about 25 mmHg, as these socks feel comparable to the 22mmHg Gold Toe socks (above). They are guaranteed to last for one year, and are made from stronger material than Dr. Scholl’s mild compression socks (above). But they can be pulled up to 19 inches above the ground, raising for some users the problem of restricting blood flow behind the knee. On the other hand, if not pulled up sufficiently, they can sag and bunch up around the ankles. For this sock, the Dr. Scholl’s folks offer somewhat better instructions than they do for their mild compression socks: “Place thumb inside sock and gather material. Place foot inside sock and pull up and over heel. Pull socks up leg. Do not fold top over.”

I am ordering more of these today
I am new to compression socks but my dr. suggested I try them. I've gone through several types and brands. I was surprised at how little information they give you in the product description. I bought a pair of these if for no other reason than I could pronounce the mfg's name. After 3 weeks of trying all of them, these have become my favorite. They claimed the shoe size is 13-15, which is my size. The top of the sock stretches to 17" above the floor. My knee cap is 19" above the floor. Sounds like a good fit to me. Most importantly, while they feel like compression socks, they also feel comfortable. Thank you Dr. Scholl's and Amazon.

Great graduated compression socks!
After speaking with the doctor, I bought these for my elderly father who was having trouble with foot swelling. The socks fit exactly as expected and within the first few days of wearing them during the day only, his feet stopped swelling. They are a bit difficult to put on, but extremely comfortable while wearing all day long. I am so happy with these socks which have given my father great comfort. They are perfect!

They Work! They're Comfortable! They Cost Less But Have Same Quality!!
My doctor has been after me to wear compression socks for quite a while now. (slight edema in the ankles) and Vine offered these so I took them. They really do help with the swelling. After a long day of wearing them I have only slight swelling now, and I'm told that if I move up to medium compression (these are mild) I probably would have none. These are 94% nylon and 6% Spandex. The Spandex is the key. It provides the compression from the ankles up and over the calf to just below the knee. Mine are bit hard to get on initially because of the compression at the ankle but once you're past that hurdle they fit very well all the way up. I have had any riding down or up. They stay in place all day and they come off easily. You need to talk to your doctor about what percentage of compression is recommended for you but they make them in mild, medium, and firm. The price on these is good (much better than other name brands) and the quality is equal to the pricey ones. Cleaning is easy just wash in cold water and dry on low and I haven't had any shrinking problems.I'm happy with them and I give them five stars.

Very impressed and thankful
I am very impressed with these support socks. I purchased a different brand a few weeks ago and they seemed to work okay. However, putting them on was difficult and I would take them off after about an hour or two. These are much better and easy to put on. After just about 4 hours I could feel the improvement in my circulation and did not feel compelled to take them off. Also they do not go up as high which may also have contributed to the better comfort. The best thing is the reduction in the leg cramps and cold sense in my feet. These improve your circulation immensely and really help. I recommend you try them before buying others. I am just preparing to buy a white pair for casual wear as well.

Best compression socks for circulation problems
This pair of socks are exactly what I needed. 6 years ago I had a surgery to remove a varicous vein (safena) from my right leg. Since then, and since the problem with circulation only gets worse and worse, I have had to look for compression socks that somehow would help, but none did. Even had some expensive ones tailored and measured to my leg. None worked. Only last month I decided to give Dr. Scholl's an opportunity, and both a pair of these. "What can I loose?", I said to myself. Best idea ever! They adjust perfecty to my leg, don't press it too much, and I (a big dude) can wear them from early morning to late afternoon/evening without feeling the itches, burning sensation, or any of the symptoms I previously had. I already bought 5 more pairs so I can wear one every day.I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY DISCOUNT OR TEST ITEM from the manufacturer to receive a favorable review. It is COMPLETELY HONEST.

5 Stars
I bought a pair of these for my partner’s Christmas present and he loves them! It’s the end of February and he already asked for three more pairs. These are on par with a compression stocking from your local pharmacy. Where the pharmacy ones leave deep marks where they stop at the knee at the end of the day these are much more comfortable he says and he gets the same benefits. Had a fraction of a price too!

fit my big feet perfectly. My shoe size is 14.
So far, I like everything about them. The only thing I dont like is not knowing the compression factor and there is no size fitting schedule.Other than that, they seem to fit like a 15 20 on me.
