Great book - although lost its charm after the first few days due to non-uniform difficulty
Great book, but the puzzles definitely increase exponentially in difficulty after the first few pages. I have solved a puzzle here and there in the latter chapters, but it's nothing like the first chapter (which was understandably easier than the rest of the book, being a warm-up of sorts). Don't get me wrong - they're not impossible - but this book is definitely not the light-to-medium reading I expected it to be. I've now resigned to use this book only in the bathroom, where I keep it to attack random problems when I am most focused while relaxing on my "throne." One final positive point: I like that certain puzzles are just background information and/or historical pieces from around the time this book was originally published in the USSR. The illustrations are pretty adorable too and remind me of simpler times.

Brilliant book with puzzles that involve mathematics and logic
Brilliant book with puzzles that involve mathematics and logic. The book have puzzles about dominoes, numbers, daily applications, and many others. The book have also reference to Soviet Union culture, so this book may be a good, refreshing read for American readers as an exploration to other culture. The puzzles presented in the book are quite challenging, requires thinking, either inside-the-box with well-known techniques, and also out-of-the-box thinking. Quite a few of the puzzles do need mathematical skill, especially on numbers theory. Basic skills such as probability and basic calculation are of course required. The variety of puzzles, mathematical challenge, and other type of logical challenge is enough to satisfy readers that love mathematics and logical challenge. All puzzles solution are really well explained, thus you will find the answers rewarding too.

Must have in personal library
This book will help anyone strengthen their analytical thinking and understanding. Some challenges can be solved with simple approaches while others require multiple steps and resources. Have fun and share your experiences with students preparing for college or ASVAB testing.

Just like doing math homework
As a puzzle fan, I bought this expecting math-related riddles. I shouldn't have, nor should you unless you're that guy who's faster at math than a calculator, because while there are some good mathy riddles, the problems are primarily the kind of math that requires visual calculation [using coins, dominoes, etc.] vs. doing it in your head; even the "Mathematics with Almost No Calculations" chapter I found I needed to work it out on paper. This is fine, but it feels a lot less recreational if I need to use a notepad, especially if I don't have one handy. Furthermore, this is a translation, so there are a few puzzles that are confusing/don't work out as smoothly in English, though I was disappointed to find some glaring typos--e.g., "7/12 = 1/3 - 1/4" [maybe if you ADD them!]. On the whole, it's an interesting thought exercise and forces me out of my comfort zone in trying to solve the puzzles, but I found it most useful as a sleep aid.

I picked up The Moscow Puzzles because I wanted something a bit more stimulating than the typical puzzle books you usually find, and this one definitely delivers. The problems are clever, varied, and often trickier than they first appear. What I enjoy most is how different the puzzles feel — they’re less about memorizing formulas and more about thinking creatively and seeing patterns in a new way. It’s the kind of book you can open for just a few minutes and suddenly find yourself absorbed for an hour. Some puzzles are quick and satisfying, while others make you stop, rethink, and come back later with a fresh mind. It’s a great mix that keeps it from becoming repetitive. If you enjoy math, logic, or just want something that keeps your mind sharp, this book is a fantastic pick. It’s also a fun one to share with older kids who like brain teasers.

De nombreux "puzzles" en version anglaise sur de nombreux sujets ; très intéressant. Permet de chercher dans le domaine de la logique ; des maths sans que se soit inaccessible .

As a math teacher, I find these logic problems wonderful as engagement activities.

Muy divertidos! Los primeros son muy fáciles pero luego se van complicando. Son matemáticas disfrazadas, de manera que siempre se ve el problema en un contexto físico/real.
