PirastroObligato 1/2-3/4 Violin String Set - Medium Gauge - with Ball-end E

I replaced a set of old violin strings for a half size violin with the Obligatos, and I noticed the volume has toned down noticeably. Maybe a bit too much. The sound was very rich and good to play sad or emotional pieces, but for most fractional sized student violins playing lively or happy songs, I would avoid this string. The string, however, did help the student interpret and play more emotionally certain musical pieces.I know this string would make sense for advanced violinists with strong projecting violins. The volume becomes slightly muted, but the complexity of the sound is enhanced. The complexity can be defined as an extra layer of vibration that feels like the vibration of the D string. Tone is consistent and clean. On the electronic tuner, the Obligato held its note more consistently and in a tigher band than the old set we had. It took a week for the strings to settle, but once it did, it sounded beautiful.This is a string for advanced players and/or good violins. If neither applies, this may be too much string. This is not a string for everyone. The string really needs to match the violinist and violin or the piece played.

It took several weeks for the strings to hold their tension. Now the wire around the A-string is coming off. However, I am satisfied with their sound.
