Dark and hard to put down
This series is very well written but this was the hardest book in the series for me to like.Anna trades places with her father as hostage in an attempt to work from the inside to foil Moriarity’s plans to create an unspeakable solution to war. Holmes is on the sidelines here and apparently unable to save her from herself...which must drive Sherlock Holmes fans absolutely nuts!Anna in a macabre dance with the devil, and this reader wasn't sure why she doesn't cut and run when her father is out of danger and her sanity is in jeopardy because she thinks she must stay in the house and bed with a man who is bent on total control of the country, her body, if not her soul. Stockholm syndrome? She eventually finds a way to untangle her life from his, but at a terrible cost to her psyche and to her body. The story is very dark but very hard to put down.

An unfortunate sequel (strongly recommend against buying this book)
I will begin by saying that although I prefer Doyle’s writings about Holmes, the first book in this series was a pleasant surprise. But that is where the pleasantries ended.SPOILER ALERT!The main character is intended to be strong woman struggling in a man’s world. And although this character is likable in the first book she becomes completely unlikable in this second attempt. In addition, there as so many holes in her character (and the other characters as well) that you will be left wondering how so many people could have enjoyed this book. For example, can you imagine that Sherlock Holmes would not notice that the woman that he loves is four months pregnant (I said this would be a spoiler)? By the way, this is the same Holmes that notices within seconds that a woman he had never met before is masquerading as a man (when she had managed to fool close colleagues and associates for years. Equally ridiculous; try to imagine a woman angered by the misogyny of 19th century England would not only sleep with a villainous mass murder/serial killer, but she would do it while supposedly being epically in love with another character (Holmes).Of all the books I have read in my life, this was the first time that the author has so alienated me from the main character that I stopped reading it about three-quarters of the way through. I have finished many books that I didn’t like, but I have never so disliked the main character that I decided I would rather toss the book than spend another minute reading about her.So just to be clear, even if you like the first book in the series (as I did), don’t waste your time or money on this one.

Not for Me
I loved the first book but this one I could not even stand to finish. I have no idea why the author chose to change course so completely. The heroine goes from strong and quirky to being a passive victim for months. It was a depressing read that I couldn't stand to finish, and I am so sorry the author thought this was the way her character would grow. I would be interested in this excellent author in the future; she is so talented and I love her ideas--but I read for pleasure, not to learn about passive despair.

Good read, but disappointing compared to the first
I loved the first book in this series, and compared to the original, this sequel was not quite as good. However it was still a really enjoyable read!I really enjoy the writing style of these books, I feel like I can really get into Anna's head a lot of the time, yet it also maintains the cool and disconnected feel of Holmes. However I did feel in this novel her internal monologue became a bit tedious at times. I think this was probably due to the plot of this one. There was less action, things moved a little slower, and Anna had less control of her situation, and thus more time to ruminate. This was probably why I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as the last - the plot was a bit slower and just not as engaging. I also felt the ending was rather rushed, especially compared to the long built up.But all in all a great read, I shall certainly go looking for the next one.

Loved the series!
I have read the 3 Anna Kronberg series books and was very sad when I reached the end of book three and Wendeberg had not written more books. Although I am a history fanatic, there were many women's issues as well. I too was a woman studying to enter an occupation dominated by men, so I related to a lot of Anna's obstacles and struggles. Still, men would enjoy this series too. Wendeberg's other series is excellent too. Let us all hope that she continues to add to these series. She is an amazing writer. Thank you Annelie Wendeberg!

The ongoing saga
As the story continues, we find that Anna has been kidnapped by Moriarty. The ensuing story fills the pages with deceit, suspense and intrigue. I would not recommend this book to those who dislike reading about the darker side of Victorian life. For those who enjoy cunning, devious characters, this book is for you.

I love the author's descriptive writing style
I have read all of the Kronberg Crime Series and certainly hope there is another on the way. I love the author's descriptive writing style. She writes about the relationships and about how hard life is like you were living it right along side of her. I enjoy anything medical and although it would be hard to actually categorize this as a medical novel, there is a lot of medical mystery in these books. There is a good bit of violence and some sex in the book. I can't believe I had never heard of this author, but will be reading more of her works.

Continuing Journey
Anna has gone into hiding but is found and forced to developers bacteria for germ warfare. She is held hostage with threats against her father if she doesn't comply. As a medical professional, I enjoy reading the background of our work even in fictional settings. I also enjoy the politics of the day. If you don't like this type of reading, this book may not be for you. I found the end to drag a little but would still recommend it.

Devious plotting.
Amazon description.Eluding Scotland Yard and Sherlock Holmes, Anna Kronberg leads an inconspicuous life far from London. Until the day she wakes up to a gun pressed against her temple. With her father held hostage and no help in sight, Anna finds only one way out — to take her captor for a dance along the razor’s edge while delving into Britain's tentative beginnings of espionage and systematic biological warfare.Review.An intriguing novel with Anna (Anton) at first baffled by her capture, and then, against her will, having to try to develop biological weapons. How she employs her intelligence, quick thinking and even her womanly charms to overcome the problems with which she is faced, forms the substance of a well told and quite enthralling novel that is a credit to the author. Anna is very likeable, very determined, and utterly devoted to overcome the problems that life throws at her. There is only one person who tries to help her, and sometimes the wiles of Sherlock Holmes seem not to be helping. The development of a form of Stockholm Syndrome (though that term was not known at the time) adds to the complexity of the novel. Looking forward to the next one.

Compelling
This is the second book in this series, which started with ‘The Grin’, and it did not disappoint. More cerebral than the first, the reader is immersed in Anna’s thoughts, feelings and emotions. She grows as a character, allowing herself to become more feminine, or rather, having femininity forced upon her. I liked her vulnerability in this novel – it added to her complexity.Moriarty was a rare treat. Not the one-dimensional, albeit immensely intelligent arch villain of traditional Holmes stories; this Moriarty was convoluted, complex and multifaceted, and I, for one, found the jury to be out on him, as I combined my dislike of his methods with sympathy for his situation.Unanticipated twists, unexpected developments – I seriously do not have any ideas how the author intends to resolve this situation. Her plot is full of suspense, and I don’t expect anything less from the next instalment in this series. A HEA is not anticipated…I highly recommend this novel both to Sherlock Holmes fans, and those who are not. It is far, far more than a Holmes story. In fact, he plays a secondary, though important, role in this compelling tale.

I absolutely love this book. A female Sherlock Holmes with a visit now again from himself. Defiantly would recommend.
