A Better LED Illuminated Magnifier
This is what I purchased to replace the Brightech illuminated magnifier which I purchased based on what I can only assume to be fake reviews since that product is fatally flawed in the entire articulation mechanism (drooping magnifier head, poor range of motion, and tendency to move away from me when placed in position). The arm on this Luxo fully articulates and I am able to attach it to my first shelf, completely freeing valuable desk space. The arm and head stay where I put them. There is no silly plastic cover to flip up which does nothing but get in the way and isn't removable without breaking it. Instead, Luxo supplied a simple cloth bag to cover the magnifier head. The only downside I can find is that the light isn't as bright as the Brightech. Some people complained of lens distortion where I found none. Some complained about the light switch, which is easy to find and has two intensity settings. So yeah, I learned a costly lesson. I just use the Brightech as a too expensive high intensity light source fill.

Well made lamp
I really appreciate the quality of this lamp. Less expensive lamps tend to not hold their position, have heads that droop, and controls knobs that are hard to use and break easily. This lamp has none of those shortcomings, and is worth the premium price. I find nothing wrong with the lens, it's better then the ones on less expensive lamps. I don't get any color fringing on the edges of objects under magnification. The lamp head seems a little smaller than the picture shows, not a problem for me. The lamp head is 6 3/4" wide and the lens is 4 3/4" wide. The LED's are very bright but the on/off switch is a little hard to reach because it's small, on the underside of the lamp head, and you normally can't see it. This lamp would also make a good desk lamp if you didn't need/use the magnifying glass.

A must-have!
I have had this lamp for a few months now and I absolutely love it.Sturdy arm, easy to adjust. Good magnification with little distortion. Bright, even light.I took one star off because it has two settings for brightness and the second setting (lower brightness) generates an electronic buzzing sound that is not too loud but gets pretty annoying when you are trying to concentrate in a quiet environment, so I stopped using that setting altogether.Other than that, it is now the only lamp on my desk at home and I have found countless instances when I use it and love it and wonder how could I live without it for so long!

Wasted money on cheaper versions.
I purchased two similar magnifiers, and she it was time for a third I decided to go with a more expensive one with a longer focal distance. I'm really happy with it.

Luxo makes a wonderful product.
Very happy! I researched these lights for some time before buying. Luxo is the best company. They make basically 3 levels of lighted magnifiers. I chose the lowest level and am very, very happy. I am using this at home, not professionally. Its all metal and glass. I am happy that I got the LED model. Go to the company website and look. I also called them and asked a few questions. They were very helpful.I saw the brand name at Brownells and that was something that drew me to Luxo. Amazon is the best place to look at all their models and choose what suits your needs. This is one of the neatest tools on my work bench.

Moves nicely and holds its position, magnifier smaller than specified
Unlike the Luxo lookalike that I tolerated for years, the head of this product actually stays where I put it.The magnifier is specified to be 5" diameter, but the exposed area is actually 4.75". It's a little small for me, so carefully consider how large you really need before purchasing this.

good even light
Pros: Lightweight, good even light, good color temperature, high/low light modes are just about right in terms of brightness.Cons: Basically the lens is a piece of junk, so much so that I can't recommend this light. The entire lens is obviously of the lowest quality; the two mains problems are there's a pretty visible bump/nipple in the middle of the lens, and the surface curvature is uneven across the face of the lens. The result of the latter is it's not comfortable to use with both eyes open at most distances, as each eye is getting a differently-distorted image. You can kind of find a sweet spot where it's not too bad, or just close one eye.To be clear I'm not expecting an optically perfect lens, but given this device's whole purpose in life is to illuminate and magnify, it only does one of those things well.
