Exact replacement for my Craftsman 175 max PSI, Pro (black) series upright air compressor.

This is a nice little safety valve that is a must for any pressure vessel. This one will do the job and is within the certification range of my tank. I used this to upgrade my ASME certified tank from 150 psi operating pressure to 175 to match my compressor. This valve will open at 200 psi. It was difficult to remove the old valve from the regulator manifold since the tank manufacturer used blue locking thread sealer to prevent leaks. The body of this type of 1/4" valve is very delicate and needs to be torqued in or out very carefully to avoid breaking it off. I applied a conservative amount of teflon-based sealer and tape to the threads and tightened it just enough to avoid leaks at the operating pressure. Passed the bubble test: no problem with leaks from the threads or valve seat. This one has four holes for releasing air pressure, so the body looks particularly prone to shearing off if turned to aggressively. The one I replaced had two oval release holes and did not survive removal. The hex nut is at the top of the body assembly and all the turning force will pass across the weakest portion of the brass body. Otherwise, a good choice. This is the reason for the 4 star rating.

I bought this pressure relief valve to replace the one in my new compressor. I had changed one of the female fittings and broke the manifold. I broke the pressure relief valve trying the change it out. Worked like a charm once the new one was in.No problems.
