Terrific with a caveat...
This is truly a great little device, and it works perfectly if you know the most important trick, which is to use the correct amount of seeds per tray. Since the instructions are a little vague on this subject, here's my opinion based on trial and (wasted seeds) error.First, if you're using small seeds (like alfalfa), do not overcrowd the trays. Less is way better, or you'll have drainage problems and rot, which is what all the one star reviewers complain about.Second, shake the unit around a bit while the water is dripping down to prevent the seeds from clumping together. Give 'em room to drain.I've found, using broccoli seeds, that one teaspoon of dried seeds (pre-soaking) per tray seems to be optimal. Now, with smaller or larger seeds this may not be true, but I think it's a good guideline. Trick #2, and less important, is to give the sprouts a little sunshine when they're in their final hours. Helps green up the leaves a bit, and accelerates growth. Don't do this before the green shows or you'll risk drying out the immature sprouts. My $.02.Picture shows broccoli sprouts at 3 days, one teaspoon of seeds before soaking.

Poor drainage for small seeds.
Completely agree with all comments about size of holes. I purchased mine to mainly sprout broccoli seeds. The first time was fairly successful as I only tried a very small batch. Then next three attempts I noticed a bad smell and at first thought this was normal and kept trying to unsuccessfully to wash it out. Finally I realised that the broccoli seeds were the perfect size to block the holes, Howe er careful you are, leading to poor drainage and rotting sprout seeds. As I want to continue I have just increased the size of all of the holes to improve drainage. Hopefully that will resolve the problem. Note to manufacturers- if you made the holes narrow slots instead of holes the seeds wouldn’t block. I know this is not ideal situation for most users.

Mine leaked down the outside of the containers. The company offered to replace it but the cost of postage meant not feasible. However, if you have this problem rather than putting the amount of water in the resovoir as suggested just use a cup full 3-4 times per day and it resolves the problem. I felt the price a little high becuse it does not work any better than cheaper versions

Does not work
This seed sprouter deserves no stars. I've sprouted seeds for years so know how to grow them. In this product the seeds sit in water and rot - especially broccoli sprouts. I've tried 5 times and each time had the same rubbish result. Expensive waste of money.

Defective product : holes are too small and water does not drain
It's useless. There are drainage holes on every container(except for the bottom one). The holes are too small : water does not go through them. And no, it's not because ''seeds are stuck in them'' or because ''you have hard water in your area''. Even without any seeds, water does not flow. That means if you put seeds on every level, every single one of them will rot because they will be submerged in water.FIX: I had to use a drill to go through every hole with a bigger mesh. The holes had to be 3 times their actual size for water to drain. After this tweak, I can finally sprout seeds. My 1st batch were mustard seeds. It went pretty well. I'm now sprouting brocoli and radish seeds.Reading the many reviews it's quite obvious some customers get the product as desdribed and other receive a defective product with smaller holes(rendering the thing useless). I should not have to use a drill to fix a defective product I paid for. There are probably many factories and one of them uses a defective plastic mold. I'm rating it according to what I received. I would have given it zero stars if such an option was available.
