Warhol on Basquiat. The Iconic Relationship Told in Andy Warhol’s Words and Pictures

I love this book. The information and pictures are amazing. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of the artist.

There are women who show up repeatedly but never acquire names of their own. Warhol wasn’t mean or a misogynist; he was shy and easily frightened. And it becomes clear, quickly, that Basquiat is a similar case, with similar class issues and without Warhol’s roots in the Church. Without faith, there are always the other opiates. I wish there had been more color pictures of the collaborative paintings. This is a partial view of one part of a story about a decade and some of New York City’s gallery history. It would help if we could see a bit more of the magic and the beauty.

I am a fan of both, and initially bought it for the photos. And, it is worth it...just for the photos, not only of Jean-Michel and Andy but of Keith Haring, Michael Jackson, Grace Jones, Fela Kuti, Madonna, Liza Minnelli, Kenny Scharf, Julian Schnabel, Diane von Furstenberg, and a hundred other industry figures that came in and out of New York in the 1980s. The cherry on top are the seemingly banal journal entries of Andy Warhol, which I found to be incredibly cool. There are also several photos of the artists at work and of drawings and paintings I've never seen. It's a chronicle of incredible time.

Beautiful photos of Jean Michael and Andy. It contains little pasages from Andy's diaries that fix with the photos.

Acquistato per un regalo destinato ad un grande appassionato di Basquiat. Avrei gradito trovare la versione in lingua italiana, ma il regalo è stato apprezzato e tanto mi basta. Il prezzo non è economico ma non mi sento di giudicarlo eccessivo
