Yes, it will fit any hole over 1 mm.

Q: would this good be good for out door wind chimes

Yeah. I think it would be fine for that. It’s lightly coated and a nice thickness.

Q: Is it soft enough for extended day to day wear? I'm worried about chafing

I have not worn this. The kids at our church used.this to make necklaces during Bible School last year. In making these, the cord does seem soft. Has a nice smooth coating.

Q: Will this hold a knot or does it come undone easily?

I can't answer this question about use because I returned this cord. When I got it I thought it would look somewhat close to leather but, it didn't. It had a shinny coating and looked too much like plastic, did not fit my needs. On the other hand I don't think it will hold a knot because of the texture of the cord itself. You might want to use a glue or burn the ends for it to keep a knot. Hope this helps.
