Reasonably well made. Worth the price.
Nice heavy construction. The mating surface was dented slightly requiring some filing to allow the surfaces to join properly. Quite a bit of flashing on the underside needed removal to allow the banjo and tailstock to slide properly.

NO PROBLEMS WITH THE FIT OR FINISH.
After reading some of the reviews I was a little worried about the fit but I had no problems whatsoever. I followed the instructions and everything went right together and worked smoothly. I had a little trouble getting the bolts started but nothing to complain about. It looks like it came with the lathe. Some said the finish was rough but mine was just like the lathe finish. By the way, the lathe works great too; it is super smooth and quiet.

Well made, stout and rock solid
Well made, stout and rock solid sums it up pretty well.. I finally got around to rebuilding my bench to accommodate the extension. After some initial fit up issues caused by my inattentiveness, it went together well. There is a slight difference in the slot width that makes the key at the bottom of my tailstock bang into the joint where the two pieces meet, but I light touch with a dressing stone from my Dremmel tool smoothed it out. The important alignment, that of the top milled portions of the beds went well. As a previous reviewer stated, alignment of the tops of the beds is simplified by using the tailstock as a clamp. I only glanced at the installation instructions from Delta and went about making the bolted connections only find that I had aligned the tops of the beds, but the slot opening was off a little and my tailstock was caught. After reading the instructions closely, I found that there were clear instructions about how to align the slot before aligning the bed tops. After final set up, everything works smoothly and I am looking forward to the extra capacity this will give me.

Good Deal
I bought this extension, along with the lathe, before I bought a bigger (Jet 1642) lathe. It's been in the box for twelve years. I attached it to the lathe when I first got it to see if it fit-and it did. I bought it thinking if I needed it later it wouldn't be available and it would be more expensive. It is still avalialable but the price has gone up by forty dollars. I used the lathe for only a few hours when I first got it so essentially it's new. I should sell it but-meh, maybe one of the grandkids will get into woodturning.

Needs fine tuning
Good product but the holes in it caused it to slightly misalign when bolted to the lathe bed. I solved the problem by enlarging the holes in the extension bed to 13/32”. That gave me enough wiggle room to align the two beds properly. Now works smooth.

Great addition to my lathe
I had read a few reviews of the extension and If Delta would cast in a tenon and grove it would be even easier to install, If you take your time and align one side using the top bolt on that side then slowly move other side up to be flush then your done very easy. I wonder of the folks who had troubles ensured their bench was level and square, Mine was not, So I fixed that and the rest was easy. Made my 46-460 even better tool.

DON’T BUY THIS, unless…
…you are willing to spend several hours with a grinder, file, drill, and mallet. Fit and finish was awful.Fins of metal left over from the casting had to be ground away and filed smooth so the tailstock could slide past. Getting the beds to line up at the joint required redrilling the 4 mounting holes to allow more positioning tolerance. Even with that, many whacks from a dead blow hammer were needed. All in all, a frustrating install. But, once done, the extension seems like it will meet my needs perfectly.

24 1/2" Extension
It fits my Delta lathe easy with 6 bolts - 4 to the main lathe bed and 2 to the bench. Aligns perfectly.
