Workhorse Tape of a Professional Videographer
Some video techs say that if you use one brand of tape in a Video recorder then you should never use another brand, because the other brand has different oils and metals. Honestly I don't know if that is true or not, but what I do know is that these tapes are great, and I would recommend these to anyone using a tape video recorder. When I shoot video tape, I use a lot of them. When I get busy it is not uncommon to use 20+ tapes a week. I never reuse them, so keeping cost down and finding them locally is important to me. Well I used to get these tapes at Costco years and years ago, before I had an Sony HD video camera. Well I feel in love with these tapes ( never had a problem with one of them, and I have used over a thousand). So when I upgraded to HD 1080p video, I started doing a lot of researching on what type to use. Well a lot of people used these tapes. So I continued using these tapes for 1080p and I loved it. Now I just order them on Monday morning, using Amazon prime, I get them by tue for a few dollars, and I couldn't be happier.Pro:Great PriceWorks with HDWorks great in my pro level Sony gearGreat all around.Cons:None

Great if you need them
These worked well when I had a mini DV camera. Not sure if anyone still does, but these were great.

They work well
First let me say thankfully I have finely come to my senses and left tape recording behind last year and hopefully will never have to purchase another miniDV tape of any brand in the future. Why It took me so long to part ways with tape is another story and really had to do more with my Professional DV cameras still performing great and not wanting to put them out to pasture while they were still working so well in the field and earning revenue. My mistake. I would really like to have all those hours back I spent with the time it takes to capture content from digital tape which is no longer a issue with card media recording. I have probably used more than a thousand of these Sony miniDV tapes in my business over the last 7 years and they have worked rather well. In recent times I have noticed some drop out issues on occasion with these tapes from suppliers who send you ones that are packaged in the orange and yellow shrink wrap. I flat out stopped buying from these suppliers cause that was a nightmare when it occurred since part of my video business is taking video depositions where it is critical to capture every word and frame of testimony precisely as it occurs with time and date stamp so errors or drop outs are a big problem. Fortunately I used card media based backup cameras when those problems arose with the main cameras running tape so I was able to correct the problems with the recordings when they occurred but a typical recording secession for me may run as long as 8 hours and having to sit through that much content of boring legal testimony to review it all because you can no longer rely on the integrity of the media was the final straw for me. It may be just a coincidence but I did notice these issues occurring more frequently after the Tsunami in Japan in the region where many of the Mini DV tapes were manufactured. Perhaps some of the tape being sold had been doing some floating around the plants that were destroyed before they were shipped out. Who knows? Anyway I would recommend these tapes but suggest you buy them from a reputable Amazon merchant who will sell you only the ones in the Blue Shrink Wrap. If you look on the actually tape packaging you will notice that their is a slightly different product number for the tapes wrapped in blue shrink wrap vs. the ones that come in the Orange and yellow.

Good quality for a good price
We use Sony MiniDV tapes exclusively in our pro gear. We've tried the others (JVC, Panasonic, etc.) but have had the best luck and fewer drop-outs with the Sony tapes. The others might be cheaper, but it's just not worth the risk of losing a critical shot for a client, because we cut corners on tape. Also, as a caution advisory, be careful about buying "premium" HD tapes from places like eBay. I think some of them must be counterfeit, as we purchased some and they were terrible (kept getting errors on the camera, saying there was a problem with the tapes). That's why we went back to these Sony tapes... they work capturing HD better than the more expensive ones we bought. This vendor turned around the order quickly and the tape stock seems excellent.

a FEW issues...
Some reviews have mentioned drop-outs... I've noticed those too. Not tons but a few. I think... and I might be wrong... that these are older model tapes. Other sources sell this tape as model DVC60PRR and they say "Formerly DVM60PR, DVM60PR3, DVM60PRL." These are the DVM60PRL. Different packaging too. Again - I might be wrong. These are inexpensive and - if you're a Amazon Prime member - free (sorta) shipping (you pay for Amazon Prime but if you buy enough stuff from Amazon it does pay itself off). My two cents. Then again - it would be wonderful to wonderful to trade in my tape cameras for memory card units.
