well made
I am a retired, certified diesel mechanic, and I find this scope to be very well made, with smooth controls. This is a somewhat complicated scope to use and I STRONGLY recommend one views some of SEVERAL u-tube vids available as to PROPER use and adjustments.....also there are many explaining how to stain and make GOOD slides.... After reading many reviews....both on omax and amscope brands I chose Omax because of LED light....others have HALIDE or TUNGSTEN lamps which become VERY hot to the point they will actually COOK specimens REAL... LED lite is a cool lite not at all even warm. Here is a tip many seem to want to know about: To install color filter discs....raise stage to top....loosen condenser holding screw and remove condenser.....unscrew condenser top and drop filter disc in and reassemble I use the "daylight blue" filter as it smooths out the harshness of light try it! All in all VERY satsified and would STRONGLY recommend it to friends.

Do Not Buy the Case with this scope as sold by Omax
The case that you can bundle with this affordable scope is garbage. They will make you send back everything to return it if you purchase it as a bundle. Very cheap and latches do not work at all. Not really made of aluminum either - plastic.

Excellent scope for soil science
Got this scope after shopping for a few weeks and am extremely pleased with this purchase. Have been a big fan of Leighton Morrison, Dr. Elaine Ingham, Matt Powers and the soil food web for a few years now and wanted to get a better understanding of my own soil. If you're on this or a similar path and know how specialized microscopes can get, than look no further, this is a perfect starter for intro into soil science in my opinion. P.s. small sample of immersion fluid included!

Excellent value.
Well made, smooth focusing action and stage movement. Haven't used too much yet, but appears to be an excellent value. I've purchased the dry darkfield condenser, and that also works well with this unit.

It Works
Purchased this for a Soil Food Web course I enrolled in, and it works. Opens up the microbial world to the citizen scientist.
