What Happened to My Child?: A Mother's Courageous Journey to Save Her Son

Clear description of the course of events leading up to finally getting help with a very troubling condition. This book describes what my daughter’s family has been living through. In her case, it took months and a hunch of hers to ask for a particular medical test that finally led to a diagnosis and a good doctor. Her son is finally getting treatment and is on a path to some real help. I hope books like this help other families to find answers to a condition that far more doctors should be aware of.

I read this book cover to cover in 3 days (usually it takes months for me lol). I couldn’t put it down. My 11 old has been suffering with almost the exact symptoms and it was like I was writing our story myself! Great book, great information. Everything you need to help guide you through this process of helping your child in one place. I loved it, thank you so much!!

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has a child suffering from Pandas or Pans. The author has also focused on how this diagnosis effects all aspects of every family member, along with very helpful insights and resources to make navigating this illness manageable, and keeping relationships intact.

I just finished this incredibly touching, beautifully written story in one day! I couldn’t put it down! The story of this mother and son descriptively recounts their courageous journey from onset through healing of this little known illness. A child who was once a normal, healthy 10 year old, a good student, suddenly becomes unruly, aggressive, and out of control. It recounts the persistence, patience, intelligence, and courage of this mother in fighting for the wellbeing of her child and family! How she discovers this Autoimmune disease (PANS/Autoimmune Encephalitis,PANDAS) and learns how most often the diagnoses is missed. How she seeks out and finds the doctors, health and wellness professionals, and resources to help her child and family heal and recover. This is a must read for parents who find themselves with a child experiencing such dramatic changes in behavior as well as for educational and health care professionals who work with young children. (It also includes a section on available resources!) I highly recommend this book!

The author tells her journey about the changes in her son and her exhausting journey to his diagnosis of PANDAS/PAN, AE. It's incredible to think there is a disease out there that is so obscure that very few doctors even know how to diagnose it, but here we are. The reader will be able to walk with the author down the roads of uncertainty and anguish to finally find a diagnosis and treatment. Well worth the time!
