Awesome next gen port of a fantastic reboot!
I give Tomb Raider 5 stars because I liked it enough to play through it twice, and then even went back through to collect all the items I missed and complete all of the challenges. The story is fairly engrossing, more towards the end than the beginning. I found myself actually caring about what I was doing and the well being of the NPC's. The gameplay is also top notch. It is definitely one of the best action adventure games I've played. There are a few different weapons you acquire throughout the game. A bow, pistol, assault rifle, and shotgun were enough to keep me entertained. All of your weapons and equipment are also upgradeable as you progress through the game, which keeps them feeling fresh. The combat is very fluid and enjoyable and isn't hard to pick up quickly. There isn't as much puzzle solving as previous games in the franchise, which I didn't mind at all. I played both the Xbox 360 version and the Xbox One version. The last gen version looked good, the current gen version looks incredible. The environments are much more detailed, Lara herself is much more detailed, and her hair just amazed me. I've never seen hair in a video game look and behave so real and naturally. If I had one negative thing to say, it is the quick time events were sometimes a little frustrating. If you mess up or get excited and it the wrong button, Lara will die a gruesome death and you will have to try again. Some of the deaths were sort of cool, in a morbid sort of way, so that sometimes made failing a quick time event a little less painful. I would recommend this game to anyone, especially fans of the previous games, as well as fans of the Uncharted series on PlayStation 3. Tomb Raider is definitely a step in the right direction for this veteran franchise.

One of the best games released for next gen consoles so far.
The graphics are great, the storyline is surprisingly deep and well-developed. A rarity as in todays game market few games are well-developed in any respect. This game portrays Laura as she was before she gained fame as an twin-gun-wielding bad ass. It starts with what is claimed to be her beginnings and from the way it ends, it appears there are likely more tomb raider games yet to come. The story starts off a little dark and you have to fight to survive, once you get up to speed, you start to get some weapons that can take down most foes. The game mechanics are very good, while some of the enemies are a bit dim-witted, most of them have decent A.I. and put up the right amount of challenge, while the story and excellent graphics keep you engaged. Just for fun, they threw in a few "tombs" which give you some rewards, but nothing exceptional, and offer some additional puzzles that must be solved. The puzzles have just the right amount of complexity, at times being challenging, but never so much so that you feel tempted to toss your controller. All things considered, this game is probably one of the top 5 next-Gen titles that I have played so far, and I have played most of them. I would recommend this title, don't pass it up because you aren't sure, give it a try and you may be surprised just as I was. Hope this review proves helpful.

Lara Looking Even More Beautiful. But Worth The Price Tag?
This rating automatically gets 5 stars because the game is simply amazing. Amazing story, amazing environment, amazing cutscenes. The game shows how Lara gets beaten, broken down, and is rebuilt as a survival machine. I can't wait for the next part in this franchise. The Definitive Edition is really definitive. You can see that the graphics are way better than the Xbox 360 version. Lara looks gorgeous, and the environment is realistic. One thing I did notice is that they focused too much on her hair. You can see almost every strand of hair, but why is her hair so shiny? Her hair stays glossy and perfect, even in rough situations. Her body can be scratched up and covered in blood, but her hair looks like she just came out the salon and tied her hair up. Is it worth $60? If you played the game before, no. If you haven't, yes. I got it when it was on sale for $40. No way was I paying another $60 for a game I played less than a year ago. It's messed up how the publishers put another $60 price tag on a game that was already finished. All they needed to do was upgrade the graphics. $40 should've been the max price.

great game!
I wasn't sure if this game would be my type of game because I haven't been a huge fan of tomb raider in the past. But I got it from Amazon on one of their deals and thought I would give it a shot. I started playing the game today and I have already played about 5 or 6 hours! It is a lot of fun and pretty addicting! I agree with another reviewer about it's similarities with the Uncharted series on PS3. It has a great story telling element and the game is fluid and the camera angles are usually really good for game play which can be a challenge with 3rd person/platform games. Graphics on the xbone look good and controls are great. Pretty happy with it overall. Not sure about replay value and I haven't tried the multi-player yet, so I can't speak to those things yet. Will update later with that info. If you like Uncharted....you will enjoy this game.

awesome game, not for beginners
I bought this game for my gamer boyfriend's birthday in hopes we could both play it. Well I have to say it's gorgeous graphically, very intense in action... and the easy setting which I was hoping to be able to play being a nongamer, is anything but easy. In fact I could only playfor a few minutes before he had to take over for me and he was hard pressed to get through some of the combat. That's my only real criticism of the game is that it would be nice to have the easy level actually be accessible to inexperienced players like me, however I did enjoy watching the story and was actually able to follow it pretty well (which is also rare since I can't usually make heads or tails of video game stories or what's supposed to be done.) Anyway I definitely recommend it if you want a challenging game with good story and graphics, and what appears to be lots of side adventures.

Nice reboot, hub style game with linear game-play elements
Summed up; Great game! It is a reboot of the original series, not a continuation, so you can start with this game and not miss anything. I don't have the original Xbox 360 version to compare it to, but on my Xbox One it looks like a good game graphically. It has some RPG elements, like purchasable skills and weapon upgrades. The movie used a lot, but not all, of the story & characters from this and Rise (TR reboot part 2), so you'll recognize a lot if you watch/play them simultaneously. There's some replay-ability to it, but once you have all the achievements (most of which are just kill x number of things with this weapon, or in this certain specific way). Overall, I would recommend it for a good, quick, cheap play if your looking for a good game, but don't want to pony up the $60 for a new AAA title, and you might find something new to spend time on with the next two games in the reboot series!

This 50-something Player Really Enjoyed It
I'm not the typical gamer and as a guy that recently turned 58, my tastes aren't the same as the teenage and 20ish crowd. I tend to like role playing games where I can explore and where I can build my character's abilities and arsenals. Games that I enjoyed include Skyrim, Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, Resident Evil 4 (and, to a lesser extent, 5), and a few others. I had some trepidation when I ordered Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition but was pleasantly surprised. The graphics are nothing short of stunning, the story line is engaging, and there are just enough options for exploration to make this a truly enjoyable game and experience. FWIW, I haven't gotten into any of the mufti-player games as yet; normally, those aren't a big attraction for me but the one time I did try to get in, TR wasn't able to locate any games for me to join. PROS - As noted, the graphics are really something to behold. -The story line is fun and engages you from the beginning - The controls are well laid out and easy to master - The weapons while limited are fun to customize as you stumble across components and earn credits - During the game play, there are side quests for most areas of the island on which you find yourself stranded to include optional tombs to explore each with its own puzzle to figure out. - As you progress, you will encounter "camps" where you can rest up from the battles and from which you can freely travel back and forth between areas that you have already explored. This allows you to go back and work some more on the side quests (finding artifacts, area specific challenges, and so on), do some game hunting, or just explore. (At the end of the game, you can also go back to the island to freely explore and work on the puzzles as well.) - The battles are mostly fun though see my Cons for a couple of annoyances. Aiming is easy and intuitive and selecting weapons is mostly logical and easy. - Some of the battles are tough to get through but TR does a number of automatic saves so that if you get killed (and you will), you don't have to go back to the very beginning of each encounter. CONS - My biggest gripe was that some of the challenges are solved by split-second timing of pressing this button followed by that button trying to match on-screen prompts. Fortunately, the buttons that you have to press are always the same allowing you to memorize the sequence as you invariably get killed if you aren't quick enough to respond to the on screen prompt. HINT: pressing the button just a little before the on screen prompt is okay and helps during the melees later in the game. - While mufti-player action usually isn't a big draw for me, I did try to get into the multi-player area once and kept getting messages that Tomb Raider was unable to find a game. I don't know if that was a temporary server issue or if that reflects not a lot of players available. - I think most of the replay value of the game is likely to be in the multi-player area along with going back to the island to locate as yet unfound artifacts and solve unsolved puzzles. I have no desire (for now) to play the game over from the beginning.

A must buy if you didn't get it last year! This is a wonderful game!
I picked this up on amazon when it was only 40 dollars and it was totally worth it. I didnt get to play this game on 360 so I figured id give it a shot on xbox one. This game is flawless in so many ways. The visuals are so pretty. I know there is a whole controversy about ps4 having a higher resolution or framerate or whatever. Let me tell you it didn't effect my game experience. I was blown away at the effects and environment. Id also like to note, no fanboy bias, I also have a ps4 but picked this up for xbox one because the xbox has a much better controller for MY hands. The game plays very well too, everything seems to flow nicely. You learn new abilities and watch laura grow and get stronger mentally and physically. By the end your a complete badass and raining terror upon everyone and every object in your path. The story mode was just long enough for me to think that I got my dollars worth without it being overly long. If you so choose you can go back and explore the entire island to pick up collectibles and hunt various wildlife, for all you people that need to find every item in every single corner of the game you will enjoy this. Id recommend this game to anyone who has either next gen console, its awesome!
