Quality, sharp utility knife, good rubber grip
Hard to find "Made in Japan" these days, but this is one of those rare products. Hence good build quality and the snap off blades are ultra sharp. Cuts through tape and boxes like butter. The ratcheting slide mechanism has positive clicks, moves smoothly, and function remains the same after 2 years of use. Reversing the slide to the rear to replace blades is intuitive. Unlike some utility knives, there is no complicated blade mechanisms or locks, simple and straight forward. Nice rubberized handle actually is one of my favorite features, better grip and easy to pickup, so much so you want to pick it up all the time!

both are great. I work for a packaging equipment manufacturer
This is about as exciting as utility knives get. I have one of olfas small 9mm blade knives for precision work as well, both are great. I work for a packaging equipment manufacturer, so these are used for normal tasks like opening boxes of test samples, but also for tasks that require more attention to detail, like trimming uhmw tape flush on a label applicator peel plate. The all over rubber grip on this one is tacky but also feels somewhat dense and hard. It seems very durable, time will tell. The olfa action is smooth as butter, best in the game. Blades are easy to replace, and I like the replacement blade packs olfa offers with the built in blade disposal chamber. Worth the extra bucks if you use utility knives frequently, or if you're obsessed with having the best tools like me.

Very good!
This is my favorite utility knife. Very sturdy design and the OLFA blades are the sharpest around.

OLFA Sharp!
Super sharp, with nice balance. Needa a Stronger Stop when retracting. Too easy to pass end as if were going to replace blade.

Nice feel
Fits hand well, and is very slip resistant. Cutting power is of course determined by the blade, but the one that comes with it is very nice.

Great knife
Products nice, feels good like how you can just slide it up instead of scrolling a circle around. I find if its ina. Took pouch though with dirt accumulated it can sometimes get in where the knife blade shoots out and get cause it to jam. But can be unjammed by trying to open it a few times and some pressure.

A worthy successor to the older 'yellow' Hand-Saver
For years, the my old 'yellow' OLFA hand-saver was a mainstay of my toolbox. Reliable. Easy on the hands. Ergonomic. Easy to open and close. Everything a utility knife should be. Eventually my yellow version went missing somewhere, and ordered this new-generation 'black' OLFA hand-saver. And now that I eventually found my missing yellow verison, so I can offer a good analysis of what you are getting with this new black-handled version.I can already tell, this black version will be a worthy replacement, replicating all the performance and reliability I came I have come to expect from the higher end OLFA products. The dimensions and ergonomics are virtually identical between the black and yellow versions.Pros:- The 'hand saver' feature really does work! It is so much easier on the hands than hard plastic versions.- Cuts really well.- Blades are easy to replace.- No significant design flaws or shortcomings of any kind.- Made in Japan.Cons:- If you already had the stainless replacement blades for the old version, you would have to invest in new blades if you want to keep the black look. Most stores don't stock these blades, but amazon has them.- Cost of knife is higher than most other utility knives.Miscellaneous:- Some reviews complained about the 'slipperiness' of the grip. The black version seem SLIGHTLY more slipperly than my old reliable yellow version. But I suspect, however, this is because the black version is new and doesn't have years of fingerprints, dirt, oil and wear ground into it.- The slider of the black version is slightly easier to work than the yellow version. No concerns here, but I do prefer the slightly more secure feeling of the yellow version.

Best hand knife for production
When I lost my old trusty olfa knife I could not sleep lol. Imagine my old dependable and trusty olfa knife stayed with me for 6 years until it got lost. Was looking all over the place for something similar to my old knife, good thing I found this in Amazon. I really like this knife's snap lever, i hate the rotary ones because it slows me down and in our production facility I hate it when tools slow me down. The grip is comfortable yet sturdy. I found a new best friend.
