AvanaBed Wedge Memory Foam Pillow with Cooling Tencel Cover, Half-Queen

I needed a wedge to help me with reflux at night and read lots of reviews on various products. This product seemed to be of the same description as much more expensive wedges but at a lower price. I was a little nervous taking a chance on it since no one had reviewed it before, but I'm happy to report that it is indeed a nice bed wedge with a firm but forgiving feel to it.The best feature for me is the width--and keep in mind that a "queen" is approximately half the size of a queen bed. Someone complained on another website because he thought a "king" meant that it was the size of a full king bed. The extra width on this wedge allows my arms to be supported and not just my torso. If you've tried to sleep with only pillows propping you up, you'll understand that your arms don't get supported--and that adds strain to your back.I had read a review of an almost identical memory foam product where many liked it but some said it was rock hard. If you prefer a very soft mattress you may find the wedge hard, but if you like a firm mattress with a memory foam top, this should be great. I would point out for those who say it's "rock hard" that if the wedge were made of a softer foam, you wouldn't have the 7" rise that's necessary for controlling reflux because it would squish down under your weight.My only problem with the product is not really the fault of the product: it is what it is. But I've had some trouble getting used to it and do find that I slide down it a bit and have to hitch myself up. It also takes some experimentation with and without pillows to find what's comfortable. I find that I don't need a pillow for my head when I'm on my back, but have to have one for my neck and shoulders when I'm on my side.The most comfortable position I've found for myself is to lie on my back with a pillow under my head and another pillow right where the wedge ends under my tailbone. This lifts my thighs and takes pressure off my back and knees. It's like a poor man's version of being in an adjustable bed. Only problem is that I can't keep any position for very long and so end up putting a pillow on the floor by the end of the night.I also sometimes just HAVE to sleep on my stomach and so flip the wedge up against the headboard. What's nice is that it actually stays in position and doesn't fall down on my head.I probably should have said this first, but when the wedge arrives, it will be squished into a zippered black bag. I was quite doubtful about the product as it looked awful with the cover just hanging over this squished foam. It started to gain its shape after an hour or so and after perhaps 12 hours (the next day), it looked just like the picture with the cover fitting quite snugly around it.All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase--especially since I think I got the equivalent of the much more expensive wedges at a very reasonable price!Edit/update: my doctor told me I probably shouldn't have a pillow under my head along with the wedge because it makes me bend my neck too much, so when on my back I don't use a pillow under my head but do put it under my thighs. Then when I roll to my side, I take the pillow from under my legs and use it under my head. (Yes, I sleep lightly enough that I can do this throughout the night.) And I'm much more used to the wedge now and sleep very well with it.

Excellent quality, very comfortable but the King size is best as I have both.

I have COPD and needed a good way to lift myself up while I slept. I did research on many bed wedges. I came upon this product and knew I had found the correct one. Although it may seem to be higher priced than your ordinary bed wedge it is well worth the price. I have a queen bed and purchased the Queen wedge and it fits perfectly for me. This wedge rises you up gradually so when you are asleep you do not slip off the wedge. I have a queen size memory foam pillow I place on top of this wedge to make the rise perfect for my situation. I would absolutely recommend this product for anyone but especially for someone dealing with a medical breathing issue. You will notice a good nights sleep from the first night you utilize this wedge. I also bought the cover offered for this product. I did leave it out of the package for a couple of days to dispense the smell from the compressed memory foam shipping method Avana Bed Wedge Acid Reflux Memory Foam Pillow, Queen . The smell has completely left on the third day.

It seemed like a great and relatively inexpensive idea to buy one of these to help with my reflux issues. But about a week after I bought one I woke up with a terrible pain in my back. Apparently during the night I slid down the wedge such that the lower half of my back was off the wedge. Being in that disjointed position for who knows how long resulted in damage and injury to the tendons around my spine about halfway down my back. Very painful. I'm in my 40's with no history of back issues. My doctor thinks it will heal ok, but could take up to 3 months. Great. I'm not blaming the product manufacturer or anything, just be forewarned that this product does pose some risks, as I can attest. It seems that raising the head of the actual bed may be the only truly safe way to deal with nighttime reflux.

It's a great quality bed wedge - well constructed with a very nice cover which is why I'm giving it three stars. It was NOT clear when I ordered that it is not a returnable item. So just be aware that if it does not work for your needs you're out of luck to return it.I have an inexpensive wedge that works well but was just kind of narrow (I am a side-sleeper and roll back and forth frequently all night). I tried it for a week and it is just too tall for my comfort (this is the lower 7" height). I ended up with terrible hip and knee pain due to the angle of the wedge. I thought going more expensive and wider would be a good option but instead I now have an expensive giant heavy wedge taking up space in my spare bedroom. Disappointing.

I have had GERD (acid reflux) for 15 years. Originally I had my entire mattress at an angle, and that worked really well for me. Unfortunately, it did not work well for my husband, so after sleeping flat for years I finally took my doctor's advice. I have had the Avana wedge about a month now, and it seems to be working well. I don't find that I slide down at all, but I didn't slide when the entire bed was elevated either, so it could just be me! I am an exclusive side sleeper and I have always used a body pillow. I also have fibromyalgia, so I was concerned about the wedge being too firm, but it is comfortable. As someone who always has a hard time falling asleep, I was impressed that I adjusted to the wedge after just a few nights. And yes, you do need to let it air out for at least 24 hours unless you really like the smell of polyurethane.

This wedge didn't fit my needs at all, but for some reason Amazon isn't allowing a return, so that's $100 down the drain.

El único inconveniente es que te resbalas un poco por la pendiente y puede llegar a molestar un poco en la zona en dónde toca la espalda baja con la cama. Recomiendo recostar la cabeza lo más cercano a la orilla de arriba de la almohada para evitar esta postura incómoda. También es recomendable usar la cuña en un colchón que no se hunda para evitar peores dolores en la parte baja de la espalda y en las piernas; "como le sucedió a mi mamá". Aprovechen mientras su precio es bajo. Ya que puede subir hasta 4 mil.

Comfortable and exactly what I was looking for. Apparently sleeping occasionally with this is great for avoiding heartburn problems during the night, and I have noticed an improvement. Good stuff. A little pricey, but certainly feels high quality.

great quality and comfortable but it did take a few days to get use to - could not go back tolaying down with pillows for support - i do use a soft pillow on top of the wedge. expensive but goodqualirty and will last.if you suffer for gerd or acid reflux this is very helpful.

Not worth of amount

My mom is in her early seventies and has breathing problems. She can no longer sleep laying down. I found out she was sleeping sitting up in her lazyboy chair for months. So I bought her this wedge, a little against her will, and since she got used to it she's been very grateful. She talks about it all the time and tells people it changed her life.Thank you Amazon, for a happy, comfortable, and we'll rested mom!
