The tiny brush makes it much easier to do detailed work with the waterbrush, and maintain crisp lines. Like all waterbushes, the brush does fray if scrubbed too hard against paper, so if blending colors or doing a lot of shading, you might consider getting a watrbrush that you know will fray and lose its point and keep one just for detailed work.The one issue I do have with this brush is that water doesn't flow too easily- most of the time you have to squeeze the barrel to get the water flowing. This is a good and bad thing- with some mediums, I really like having control of the water so that a big drop doesn't flow out and flood whatever I am working on. But, when using pan watercolors and cakes of gouache, I like to have a waterbrush that allows water to flow continually (like the Aquash), so remembering to squeeze the barrel is not my favorite.But, like I said, the fine brush on this trumps everything else and is why I give it five stars. It allows for great control, especially in detailed work. It's the waterbrush I have been looking for. I just wish they'd adjust the water to flow out continually rather than having a drop or two come out when the barrel is squeezed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My Favorite Water Brush *by on Reviewed in the United States June 1, 2025* I received my first Kuretake water brush in a Kuretake travel palette set and loved it. I started using it almost exclusively for my watercolor work, preferring it to my regular brushes. But I needed a fine tip one for all the small detail work that I do. Unfortunately, I bought into all the Youtube videos that rave about Pentel's water brush and bought one of those instead. I was very disappointed, returned it immediately and ordered this like I should have done to begin with!Now, this is all a matter of preference. The very thing people love about Pentel is what I disliked and the same goes for this brush, you might not like the things I like about it. But hopefully it will help you one way or another! I am attaching pics of it compared to the fine tip Pentel so you can compare. You can see how much longer it is. In the other photo of the tips, the Kuretake is actually on the left, with the white nib. The Pentel has the black nib.The first thing I like about this brush is the longer, pen-like shape. I just prefer how it feels in the hand. You can see it's significantly longer than the Pentel. I didn't like the fat part of the Pentel and much prefer the slimmer feel of this one. The longer length of this brush might be too long for some very small travel palettes, so that's something to consider.This Kuretake has a thicker, firmer barrel. This means it's harder to squeeze. A lot of people like the Pentel because it's so easy to squeeze but that's actually what I disliked about it, it was too squishy for my taste. This one feels sturdy and more substantial. I do a lot of dry brush techniques and I don't want the water to flow too easily, so I like that it takes a more deliberate squeeze.This one is less wet than the Pentel. Again, this is something a lot of Youtubers rave about, but I didn't like that about it. This one lets me wipe it off and use it damp instead of wet. The Pentel stayed wet constantly, whether I liked it or not. If you're a wet painter, you might like that better, but I like less wet.Fine tip: The tip is fine, great for detailing. The Pentel tip might be slightly finer, but it's also slightly longer, which means it's more flexible. I prefer this tip because the slightly shorter, wider base of the bristles gives me more control while still being able to get into tiny areas.
