This is now probably my 3rd or 4th microphone gear from Comica, and I must admit that, so far they keep impressing me with their high quality equipment, which are much better priced than the famous pro brand out there.The microphones in smartphones are unfortunately never a part of that “upgraded feature” list your newest phone creator dishes out every year or so. If like me you’re doing anything remotely serious with your smartphone that includes audio, you’ll 9 times out of 10 have to either use an external device completely different from your phone and sync later, or, like it's the case here, grab a high quality external microphone to use instead of that clunky, stock “thing” that “records” audio built-in.This Comica Smartphone Video Rig Kit CVM-VM10-K2 kit has many positive reviews on Amazon praising its effectiveness and overall quality for the price, and that was one of the reason I bought it. This one can mount to both Android & iPhones, as well as digital cameras (or really anything with a TRRS) and is considered a ‘shotgun microphone’ as it points directly to the source you’d like to record. And yes, keep in mind that the jack connector that will connect to your phone is TRRS. If your phone is not compatible with TRRS connector, you may need to get a TRS to TRRS adapter (easy to find here).The mounting clip is quite sturdy, and easily fits my Samsung S7 without problem. Although keep in mind that it's not a spring loaded clamp like you often see around with other smartphone equipment. With this clip you have to unscrew a big black plastic knob until the clamp is at the desired opening to fit your phone, then screw it back. There are two screws on this clamp and it could be a bit confusing at first (like you could probably see on my video). But you will get the idea pretty quick of how this clip works like I did.Love the fact that this microphone also came with a classic "pop filer" foam, AND a "dead cat" to filter the strong wind noise away. The included short tripod was also a nice touch to add, and since it has a regular 1/4 tripod screw on it, I could also use it with my other camera gear, and not only with this microphone.Over all, I am really pleased with this kit, and pretty sure I will keep buying Comica branded gear in the near future too.So in short...GOOD:- Nice pro "boom" directional microphone that stands next to the famous brands- Carrying / Storage case included that can hold everything- Mini tripod included- Comes with a cell phone clamp which is sturdy and have a screw system to lock in your phone- Pop filter and "dead cat" wind filter includedNOT SO GOOD- It could take some time for the screw to open/close the clamp, as it opens/close very slowly when you turn it ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Good Initial Quality - Seems Like A Good Value *by M***T on Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2019* All in all, I feel this kit is a pretty good value. Everything seems to be well built. The tripod is sturdy and can support my Canon M50 easy (and I would think any smartphone). The smartphone tripod mount is very high quality and has a cold shoe mount on top where the mic goes. I found the quality of the microphone to be adequate. Compared to a similar Movo microphone that I own, I’d say the mic loses on fidelity, but wins in blocking unwanted noise. In the end, I feel the mic strikes a good balance between picking up your voice clearly and not picking up extra noise--it will be my go to mic for the time being.Consider that purchasing a decent tripod and phone mount separately are each going to cost you $15 to $20, and a comparable shotgun mic will probably be upwards of $30 or $40--getting all of this (including a nice carrying case) for $50 makes this a pretty good bargain.Of Course, with something like this, longevity is also a question. I’ve only used the kit for about a week, so I can’t comment on that. Again, initial quality impressions are good. I’ll update if I have any issues.***One little disclaimer is that the included 3.5mm cable is a TRRS connector for smartphones. So after owning the comica video rig for a week now, this all in one smartphone video package allowed me to get what I would consider above-average audio with just my Iphone 8. For people that are vloggers or new to video and video editing this is a great option to satisfy the need for a smartphone tripod and the shotgun mic from what i can tell delivers better audio results than the internal iphone/smartphone audio, through what I would consider a more authentic audio sound(more gain, more low end). When using the setup I only used the built in Iphone video app as I felt that is what most users would use to film and it work seamlessly. I do think for even better results with the audio, using an app like Filmic Pro or the equivalent would result in even better audio results.PROS: All in one purchase to immediately improve your smartphone video quality-Lightweight-Works with all smartphones (also was able to use with my GH5)-Build quality of the shotgun mic is equivalent to the MOVO videomic-Carrying case is a nice bonusCONS: Minor, but the mini tripod really is only capable of holding Smartphones and GoPros-Found that if running or having alot of shake sometimes the mic shock mount would make noise.
