A sensible, professional chef
I just bought this book and can't put it down. I didn't go out Saturday night because I wanted to keep reading. As a professional chef I'm committed to finding the truth about our food and searching for the sensible, healthy eating that I grew up with. As a native Italian, I know first hand that eating real food is the way to go but as a citizen of the US I've seen this go out the window as our lives get busier, more complicated and the need for prepared, convenience food grows. Somewhere in this confusing soup of growing awareness and practical consideration is the answer. This book does so much to enlighten both. My understanding and awareness has evolved as I continue to educate myself. This book is on the top of my must read list that I'll be talking about and writing about because it could literally save our lives.

Not what I expected.
Not what I expected. After reading some of the book it made me feel like I couldn't eat anything because everything is basically bad for you.

The Truth About Food
I lost 15 pounds in fifteen weeks, not by eating low calorie and low fat or fat free foods, my usual diet fare, but by using Gillian Drake's book as my guide. I eliminated sugar and sugar substitutes, ate grass fed meats and poultry, filled up on organic fruits and vegetables and, most importantly, completely eliminated all processed foods. This book is packed with all you'll ever need to know when it comes to the Truth about Food.

Appreciate this Valuable Info
This book is chock full of valuable information on the truth about what's in food and how to move toward a healthier diet without feeling like I'm sacrificing, because the ideas are introduced in a way that inspired me to want better health. I've come away with a refreshed attitude and better understanding of interesting and important facts on nutrition I haven't seen before, and can make wiser choices, much to the benefit of my life and health. I highly recommend this book, I have already experienced improvements in my overall health since reading it for the first time recently, much revitalized energy, and a new feeling of well-being, just by following some of the advise and insights offered here. It is exceptionally well written, the research and facts are presented in a way that is easy to understand and fun to read and there are many great tips on how to create a better life experience overall through good nourishment and a healthy diet. I realized that before reading this book, even though I thought I was eating mostly healthy foods, I didn't know in depth what "healthful food" actually meant until I read "The Truth About Food". This book has also made my transition to a healthier eating style so much easier and is just a delightful handbook on changing for the better. The charts are exceptionally helpful, too. Great book!

This book is brilliant, concise and a life changer.
This book is the single most motivating book on food and what we need to eat to be healthy, that I've ever read. When I became severely anaemic (having spent 30 years as a vegetarian) Weston A Price and others were helpful but I still felt I had a hodge-podge of knowledge that was not synthesised in such a way that I could take action on it. Gillian Drake's book does that for me. In a clear analysis, this book outlines what's wrong with the state of our foods, how we were led down these paths of eating unhealthy food, and what foods, based on solid research, we need to eat to be healthy. It's all there - said simply. Just the truth as the truth often appears to us, without fan fare, simply, and in light.I hope lots of people get to read this book because it's a life changer! And I don't need to read another book on food again.

All the information you need - in one place!
This book is perfect for anyone who is concerned with the food we eat and what's really in it. With all that's come out about GMO foods and Monsanto it's nice to finally have the truth all in one place. It's obvious to anyone who looks through the book that the author has done extensive research and she presents it to us in a very informative and easy to understand manner. Probably one of the best thing about the book are the charts that illustrate the nutritional levels of the food we eat. She even includes a chapter about the food our pets eat. If you want to know what to eat to improve your health - and why - this is the book for you!
