Very good sound, in this price range.
First I've had very high end 7.2, dual sub, high end home theater systems in the past. This is definitely not that, but it also didn't cost $8k. I've had this system now for about 4 weeks. I have a 65 inch Samsung TV and was only using the built in tv speakers for sound. I searched and searched the reviews for a systems that would sound very good, especially compared to the tv speakers and be easy to install and operate....this ended up being the one. I'm glad I bought it,..... more everyday. I looked at hundreds if not thousands of sound bar reviews from Polk, Bose, Klipsch, etc. The install was super simple, if you have a HDMI ARC outlet on the back of your TV, it's honestly just plug and play. So keep in mind this review is with a TV that has HDMI ARC, check your TV to see if you have that. It will say "HDMI ARC" by the HDMI plug. HDMI is not HDMI ARC. All TVs these day have HDMI, some cheaper ones do NOT have HDMI ARC. The other connection option is optical cord (the optical cable is included, the HDMI cord is NOT included). Optical is considered slightly less optimal for sound these days (in my experience when compared to HDMI ARC) and has no actual link to control or work with your TV, optical is just sound from the TV. I do not know how optical would sound, but in my extensive "review of reviews"........I found that many complaints were people that had to use the optical cable because they had no HDMI ARC output on thier TV. With optical it seems the sound may have been less quality and they had annoying connection problems constantly. The truth is, you will get that with any sound bar using the optical cable only. With HDMI ARC the system works flawlessly with each other. The remote operation, to set things up initially, is a little complex but once you go though the manual and figure out all the features, it's not bad to learn. It has a ton of cool features. One that surprised me, was the IR repeater ...what the heck does that mean? Well if the sound bar is sitting too high in front of your TV and blocking the TV remote IR signal receiver, this sound bar can actually take the IR signal of your TV remote from the front of the sound bar and shoot it out the back of the sound bar, so it "repeats" to the front of your TV remote sensor. Pretty cool, but figuring that out, took a while and you have to press and hold a button on the remote for 5 seconds to get it to turn on. READ the MANUAL! There was no difficulty getting the sub to connect to the sound bar, it did it all automatically and continues to do so, every time I turn on or off the TV (again that's an HDMI ARC function, with optical you would have to turn the sound bar on/off and the tv on/off separately). This sub never loses Bluetooth signal from the sound bar, a big problem with other similar systems. It goes on and off when the TV does, automatically (again only HDMI arc, not optical) There's tons of features, you just have to look for them. Ok, now the big one, THE SOUND! Beacause the sub is only around 6 inches, I knew that the bass would not be the deep booming bass of a high end 10 or 12 inch subwoofer. This sub actually does a good job (if turned all the way up on remote .....read the manual, again...) for normal to high/mid range bass. For watching movies and TV, it's not going to have deep base, that shakes your entire house, but it does mix perfectly with the sound bar's lower range end, with mids and higher end bass. The actual bar really shines with clear highs and mids, even it very high volume. The system can get louder than you can listen to it and remains undestorted and clear, until about 47 of 50 level and up on volume (1-50 sound levels, manual again...). The Bluetooth to phone connection is easy to set up and music sounds really good. There's are many sound setting for different types of programs or music but I have found that "Auto Sound" is usually the best all around setting. The manual says auto sound is the setting where the system adjusts the sound to what your watching automatically. It seems to do the best job, to my ears. Overall, the sound is better than expected for a system of this size and cost. I am extremely happy with the sound out of this little system and I was very skeptical. It is not a high end sound system but it definitely sounds way better than the stock tv speakers and is packed with tons of extra features. I have no regrets and WILL update if I encounter any problems, big or small. Good luck on your search. Update #1 at 6 weeks. 12/12/21 Update 2. 9/10/22. It's still going strong. No problems at all. Now after a move to a new house and new TV stand and everything is as good as new. I'm really glad I bought this little system. I would highly recommend this system for the type of situation I previously mentioned above. It's still very clear at really loud volume...even though I don't use it super loud often. It's a good one for sports, movies and music. I leave it set on Auto Sound and the sub turned up all the way. Hope you like it as much as I do.

Great value! Great product!
I was looking for an inexpensive soundbar with a subwoofer for my Samsung TV because I didn't have enough bass on my TV, and when I ordered this I didn't expect that for such a price there would be something worthwhile, but I've been using it for several years now, and it turned out to be an excellent soundbar from Sony. Ease of use, the soundbar easily connects to the TV using an HDMI cable and the subwoofer uses a Bluetooth connection, which is very convenient, the connection is very fast. The sound quality and bass are excellent, this is Sony. There is also a remote control. Very happy with the purchase, this is a great product for an inexpensive price.

Bassy, no distortion at medium high volume
It has a warm sound, bassy even when the sub is off, albiet with the sub turned up to max it mellows out the tinny bass the bar itself puts out. For the price it is not bad, good connectivity, doesn't support advanced codec's like ldac or aptx however which i did expect at the price point. The unit i purchased was open box and missing the manual and an hdmi cord ( no big deal between google & the cable box we all have laying around i expect ) but it was packaged extraordinary well, and sustainably. The look of the bar is sleek and doesn't feel old, the sub is nice as well, the grill cannot be easily removed for going "nude". It will take some time to adjust it to your likes and room, the auto sound is crap; but with a little tweaking you can find a sound with little distortion and balanced bass. I recommend using the voice settings for movies and turning down the sub a bit. The music setting actually sounds decent for music, albiet bassy, and works better for games than the game setting. The sports setting is tinny as heck and should be avoided at all costs, news as well. Standard is the most balanced setting when not in night mode, which when on needs cinema setting for balanced sound. I HIGHLY recommend looking at the manual for this bar, RFTM. Lastly, turning off the indicators is a nice feature that should be expected at this price point, along with hdmi ARC (e-arc should be really but, eh ).

You can control it with Xfinity remote even if connected with digital audio cable rather than HDMI
My 12+ year old Panasonic Blu-Ray audio system stopped working and I wanted to get something less complex (and less expensive) to replace it. Although I am a gadget guy, I am getting up in years and I now try to go more toward simple and cheap since I'm not sure how much longer I will be around. I found this sound bar at a very good price and most everything I read about it was positive so I decided it would work for me. The first thing I will say is that you can control it with an Xfinity remote even if you don't connect via HDMI. It will pair with an Xfinity voice remote (and maybe some other Xfinity remotes) using Toslink. It took about 5 or 6 tries as the remote cycled through different Sony codes but it finally found the right one. You can't do some of the more advanced settings with the Xfinity remote but it will change volume and turn the bar on and off. (I am making a big deal about this because I wasn't able to find this info searching on the Amazon website and elsewhere on the Internet. What I read suggested that you needed to connect via HDMI CEC to get a third-party remote to run the sound bar. I hope this review will help someone who finds themselves in the same situation I was in.) Otherwise, the sound bar looks great, the sound is quite good (I've only had it running for a few hours so I still need to play with the different settings), subwoofer seems quite adequate. Extremely easy to set up. I know I could have invested a lot more and gotten a lot more bells and whistles but this is a very good sound bar at a very good price. Codger approved.

Got the soundbar 24/02/20. Good sound, but not what I expected from SONY. if you connect with bluetooth with your phone or tablet the sound is perfect. When watching TV, that is, movies or anything else, bass is absolutely inaudible unless you play it in full sound. No indicator is left on the screen, and you don't know what function you turned on. All in all, I regret buying at that price. But so far better than the TV sound.

I had ordered this sound bar a while ago, but it was defective. I just replaced it and it works perfect now. I must say, I've learnt a few things. (Good things) If you are listening to music, put it on the "Music" preset. If you are watching TV, put it on the "Standard" preset. If you are watching a film, put it on the "Cinema" preset. They actually do a great job with them. Overall it has awesome Bass and overall it sounds great. I have the subwoofer set behind my couch across the room and it makes a huge difference. Before I had it up front with the TV and sound bar.

I am impressed by the sound quality. It is amazing to me how much sound comes out of such a slim device. Sony make good products at a reasonable price! I do have one question, though, and I would appreciate it if someone could answer it for me. The set-up instructions say that if you do not have an HDMI (ARC) connection on your TV (which I do not), then you must connect a regular HDMI cable AND an optical digital cable, otherwise there will be no TV sound output. I have only an optical digital output on my TV, yet the sound bar works perfectly! What's going on?

Amazing sound, the base, even when low adds a cinematic sound to the experience. I have zero complaints when it comes to watching a movie with the volume turned up however there is room for improvement with low volume. I might have to play around with the different sound options some more but when watching TV late at night the difference between 3 bars of sound and 2 bars of sound is too big, it can go from being a bit to noisy to just too quiet and you can’t hear the dialogue clear enough but if you go up 1 single bar in sound it’s too loud. If using the Soundbar at regular daytime volume and loud movie volume there no issues and it’s amazing but it doesn’t have the best low volume sound for late night viewing. If the volume was more sensitive on the low end you could find a balance but there isn’t much room there. I read a review before buying this that stated it only has one sound setting “loud AF” and I kind of have to agree, it gets the louds perfect but is weak on the low end. Not a huge deal though, you can just turn it off and use your tv sound late at night. A bonus is the Bluetooth, my tv didn’t have Bluetooth tech built in but my Apple TV does and I used this 90% of the time with my Apple TV so I didn’t even bother picking up any cables to connect it to anything, just use the Bluetooth function and it works instantly every time I turn my Apple TV on. Update: After several months of use I discovered how to better use the Soundbar at night. If you switch it to “night mode” on remote but also turn the subwoofer down a lot, you can find a good level for late night viewing. Voices are clear and sound is crisp just without the cinematic hum and booms the bass normally provides. It’s almost impossible to find this if sub is turned up. There is a volume adjuster for sub on the remote indicated by - and + beside SW. Side note: The remote is very nice, it’s slim and light.

I wasn’t sure if I would like a sound bar, as I’ve always had surround sound speakers. However, I am very pleased with the quality. I read some reviews with latency concerns when connected with Bluetooth, however I connected mine directly to my TV and it sounds and works great. I am very impressed with this unit.
